[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

As the episode opens, Kuzco is sitting in a firework-style rocket wearing a spacesuit, with a fuse burning down. His voiceover tells the audience how this came to be...

Kuzco criticises Malina's decision not to include any articles on him in the latest school newsscroll, prompting Kuzco to start a newsscroll of his own. Despite the blatant fabrication of his articles, the entire student body receives it well, including Kavo, as does Mr. Moleguaco, frustrating Malina. Mr. Moleguaco has Kuzco replace Malina as editor of the Kuzco Academy News.

Kuzco snubs all of Malina's stories, prompting her to lead him to print a story about him landing on the sun. When even this fails to raise eyebrows, Malina quits the paper rather than become a liar. This completes the backstory, as Kuzco decides to launch on his rocket to the sun so as to prevent Malina from being a liar. Malina yanks him from the rocket before he can be transported to the centre of the Solar System and burned to a crisp.

As the students watch, the rocket launches unmanned, only to misfire and crash back to the ground, exploding in the valley beneath the Academy. When they realise Kuzco is alive, he makes up another impossible story, only for Malina to set them straight in the newsscroll. Her reporting impresses Mr. Moleguaco so much that he reinstates her as editor.

Spoilers end here.
