"Uncle Pat" was the third single released from the Trailer album by the band Ash on October 17, 1994. It was released as a single CD and a 7" vinyl.
When asked about the song, Tim Wheeler stated that Uncle Pat is actually his friend Pete Lawson's uncle, an artist, from Portaferry, County Down, and for some reason Ash used to constantly talk about him. One day Ash were jamming the riff to the song and nicknamed the tune 'Uncle Pat' due to it having a rural and Irish quality. Later on, Tim scribbled the lyrics down to 'a guy I've never met...here's to Uncle Pat'
The song also features on the greatest hits collection "Intergalactic Sonic 7’’s". The song was also used in a television advertisement for Heineken and was key in raising Ash's profile in the UK and Ireland.
The B-side "Different Today" first appeared on the "Shed" demo tape, and also features on the US release of "Trailer". However, whilst in demo tape form, it had considerably different lyrics.
The other track, "Hulk Hogan Bubblebath" also appears on the US version of "Trailer", and consists mainly of instrumental, and occasional ramblings by Rick McMurray. Early on in Ash's career, it was a prominent feature of their setlists.
The music video stars Ash playing the song in concert, cut with handycam footage of the local surroundings.
