Uncle Leo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the sitcom Seinfeld, Uncle Leo (played by Len Lesser) is Jerry Seinfeld's uncle, a minor character who appears in fifteen episodes. He is Helen Seinfeld's brother.
Uncle Leo is very eccentric. When coming across Jerry, he exclaims, "Jerry! Hello!" with his arms wide open. He often brags about his son (Jerry's cousin Jeffrey, who never appears) and his various accomplishments while working in the Parks Department.
In "The Shower Head," Jerry comments on Uncle Leo's paranoid obsession with Antisemitism in ridiculous contexts, such as his claim that a cook is anti-Semitic for overcooking his hamburger. Uncle Leo proves this tendency by breaking up with a woman who found Jerry's comments funny, accusing her of Antisemitism as well.
In "The Bookstore," Jerry unintentionally has Uncle Leo arrested for shoplifting at a local bookstore. During this episode, we learn that Uncle Leo has a record related to a "crime of passion".
In "The Package," Leo receives a package for Jerry that Jerry seems to think looks suspicious. Jerry encourages Leo to open the package while talking on the phone and Jerry hears a loud explosion. Except for having his eyebrows burnt off, Leo went unharmed, as he was cleaning his oven and left the can of oven cleaner in the oven which then exploded when he went to talk to Jerry on the phone. The package was not the cause of the explosion.
When talking to people, he has a tendency to grab the person's arm (often uncomfortably) and hold them close. Jerry guessed that this was because so many people have walked away from him in the middle of his conversation.
[edit] Trivia
- Leo's last name is never revealed.
- In an episode where Leo signs for a package, it appears that he actually signs it "Uncle Leo".
