This is in response to your removal of the Uncyclopedia logo from my userpage and apparently many other pages on Wikipedia. The logo was created by me (Rcmurphy on Uncyc) as a parody of the Wikipedia logo, using only a partial overlay of the globe puzzle piece outlines to trace part of the potato face design. No part of the WP logo was used in my potato.

Uncyclopedia's license is not free, but I'd like to allow the logo to be used for Wikipedia userpages, userboxes, etc. - in other words, as "decoration" for Wikipedians. It's in the spirit of our project. --Rcmurphy 15:58, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Giving specific permission does not make the image free [1]. As such it is still bound by our fair use guidelines. Feel free to relicense it though. ed g2stalk 12:33, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

As Uncyclopedia content, it is licensed under CC-BY-NC-SA ([2] linked to from any Uncyclopedia page, at the bottom copyright notice). CC-BY-NC-SA is not considered free by Wikipedia so fair use must be invoked. — Phil Welch (t) (c) 14:23, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Any of these conditions can be waived if you get permission from the copyright holder.--E-Bod 00:58, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia does not accept specific permission to use images (Jimbo has personally intervened on this matter), so it is only usuable under fair use.

Wouldn't userspace be "Noncommercial". Also

  1. Why is this in some random E-mail and not on policy pages?
  2. That is an E-mail not a Discussion of policy.
  3. How do we know he isn't stating his Opinion and is talking in God Mode.
  4. Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy
    • OK Jimbo has the final word but why are we quoting him and debating over the meaning of his words?

--E-Bod 01:14, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

And Why to all the policy pages still talk about seeking permission. It seams like this was some quite thing that passed by without people knowing it. If Jimbo was talking in God mode or we assumed he was this would be all over policy pages. (Please note i am not going to personally read the image until i get some go ahead. I'm just arguing for these supposed rules to be Made public and not be something discussed at private meetings. I can't argue that this should not be the policy if it is not on a policy page. I'm not going to shuffle through the mail to see if he later changed his mind yet again.)--E-Bod 01:25, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Assuming the listpost Jimbo made is a policy that list post talk about when a free alternative is readily available one should not use an image with permission. However this post does not addressed when a free alternative is not obtainable. Any replicas of this logo will still be under the same licence because it would be a drive therefore this Quote form Jimbo does not addressed the issue and it is perfectly withing policy to use this image on Userspace. However I would still recommend the Policy be clarified to remove this grey matter.--E-Bod 21:24, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

How do they get that to change like they do? GangstaEB EA 20:08, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

I have contacted the original creator of this image [3], and he may re-upload it under a free license. --AAA! (AAAAAAAAAAAA) 11:06, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
