Umqombothi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Umqombothi (Oom-comb-bo-tee) is an African beer.

Some regions of Africa brew Mielie-meal / sorghum beer, to be found in the shebeens of South Africa. It is very rich in vitamin B. It is referred to in the song of the same name, where it is called a "magic African beer", sung by Yvonne Chaka Chaka, and in Hotel Rwanda.

Umqombothi is considerably less expensive than traditional "clear" beer. Umqombothi is made by using malt, Mielie-meal (maize), yeast and water.
