Umniati

Umniati is a village in Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe and is located about 32km north of Kwekwe on the main Harare-Bulawayo road. In 1938 a coal-fired power station was built in the area and the village was established to house the personnel. Gold, copper, stibnite and tungsten are mined in the area.
A Vickers Viscount of Air Rhodesia was called Umniati was downed by ZIPRA insurgents using an SA-7 Grail surface-to-air missile on February 12, 1979.[1] All 59 passengers and crew aboard were killed.
