The Umeå Institute of Design, is a college within the Faculty of Science and Technology at Umeå University. The Institute opened in 1989 and is designed and equipped solely for the teaching of industrial design. The Umeå Institute of Design is known around the world for its high academic standards.

Bachelor Programme - in Swedish
The Institute offers a three-year industrial design programme leading to a Bachelors degree (120 credits). (only in Swedish)
Masters Programmes - in English
There are three internationally oriented and specialised two-year programmes leading to a Masters degree (80 credits).

Research and Doctoral Studies - in English
For some years now, the Institute has conducted applied research and development work which is organised into two areas: the Interaction Design Lab (IDL) and the Volvo Research Programme (SET). Since the autumn of 2001 the Institute of Design has offered doctoral studies in industrial design.
