Ultime Grida dalla Savana (1974) (English: Final Cry of the Savanna), also known as La Grande Caccia and by its English title Savage Man - Savage Beast, is an influential Mondo film directed by Antonio Climati and Mario Morra. Filmed all around the world, it claims to document real, bizarre, and savage behavior and customs, though many of the scenes are, in fact, staged.[1] The Italian print is narrated by Alberto Moravia.
The film's central theme focuses on the interaction of man and animal, whether against each other (man against animal) or themselves (man against man or animal against animal). The film opens with, "And the animal kills another animal for food. And the animal kills man for food. And man kills the animal for food. And man kills man," in an attempt to explain the cyclical relationship between hunter and prey.[2]
This was the first film of Climati's and Morra's Savage Trilogy, the other two films being Savana Violenta (This Violent World) and Dolce e Selvaggio (Sweet and Savage).
