Ultimate Muscle: The Kinnikuman Legacy, known in Japan as Kinnikuman Nisei (キン肉マンⅡ世), is a manga and anime series made by Yoshinori Nakai and Takashi Shimada under the pen name Yudetamago (Japanese for 'Boiled Egg'). It is the sequel to the hit manga Kinnikuman that they started in 1979. The toy line of Kinnikuman was released in North America as M.U.S.C.L.E. The name of "Ultimate Muscle" was chosen to connect the Americanized storyline of the M.U.S.C.L.E. toyline of the '80s into the anime. Bandai also produced intermittently distributed toy tie-ins during the initial run of Ultimate Muscle.

[edit] Introduction

The story is about Mantaro Muscle a.k.a. Kid Muscle, the spoiled son of a superhero wrestler.

Kinnikuman Nisei was first published in the Japanese men's magazine "Weekly Playboy", aimed at the now grown-up fans of the original. Another manga aimed at children called "Kinnikuman Nisei: All Chōjin Dai-Shingeki" was published in V-Jump. The anime was first broadcast in Japan on TV Tokyo on January 1st, 2002 for 51 episodes until its cancellation on December 25th. Part of the reason the show lost viewers was the "Poison Pack" filler story arc that interrupted the Chojin World Grandprix. The anime was later broadcast in America on September 15, 2002 through 4Kids Entertainment on the Fox Box (now known as 4Kids TV). Remarkably, the anime was more popular in America than Japan and is one of the few anime that had a second season made especially for the American market. Although the series ended after that, the second season of Ultimate Muscle, titled Kinnikuman Second Generations ULTIMATE MUSCLE finally began airing in Japan on April 7, 2004 on TV Tokyo, but only 13 episodes were shown. (Its 1:00 am timeslot lost many viewers.) The series resumed on January 4, 2006 as Kinnikuman Second Generations ULTIMATE MUSCLE 2 again at 1:00am. The manga is published in English by VIZ Media.

Mantaro comes from Muscle Planet. His family history is dedicated to wrestling. Mantaro's father, Suguru Muslce (a.k.a. Kinnikuman/King Muscle) , had entered almost every tournament to become a champion. But after 28 years of peace, the Seigi Choujins' (Muscle League) old time enemies regrouped and formed the dMp (Demon Manufacturing Plant) and crashed landed at Mount Fuji. (The dMp are a parody of wrestling faction known as the nWo. The dMp's T-shirts are virtually identical in basic design to those of what are now considered classic nWo shirts: the letters dMp in white and surrounded by a single line forming a white box.) Time and the years without evil to fight have taken their toll on the old Muscle League, who are overwhelmed by these youthful and well-trained fighters.

Realizing they've lost their edge, the Seigi Chojin reopen the Hercules Factory, the training school for superheroes, and begin training a new generation of heroes to take on the dMp. Although unwilling, Mantaro (Kid Muscle) is one of the young heroes who takes part and ultimately defeats his father to prove his worthiness to graduate. He and the other new Seigi Choujin fight and defeat several members of the dMp and meet Kevin Mask, who quits the organization after seeing that they're without honor. They also battle Sunshine and his pupils, who destroy the dMp after developing a rekindled respect for the fighting spirit of the Seigi Choujins.

Two last matches were held in Spring break in Maui, and the final where Mantaro and Scar Face (Eskara) teamed up for the trophy.

Later came the Chojin Olympics to see Mantaro to get his hands on the trophy if he wins. The competition was really hard for him. He won some practices being almost last. When he made it to the tournaments, first he jumped his was to the pinball, despite his dislike, he was banging and hitting himself everywhere, especially in his back when the pinball prevented Mantaro from winning. At last, Mantaro broke a pinball and another one headed for him, but he managed to break the last one and he finally made it to the Chojin Olympics, the Chairman was nervous that Mantaro has entered the Chojin Olympics.

The manga continues with a fight against the Demon Seed, a group of evil villains, after then a small back story for Robin Mask, and currently a Tag Team Tournament taking place in the past.

There are a total of 77 episodes of Ultimate Muscle, and 2 movies based on the TV series.

[edit] Characters

[edit] Prologue of a Legend~Hercules Factory Arc

Mantaro Kinniku (キン肉万太郎 Kinniku Mantarō) / Mantaro Muscle (Kid Muscle)
Seiyuu: Masaya Onosaka/Marc Thompson (US). Homeland: Planet Kinniku, Age: 14 (Choujin Olympics: 15, Ultimate Tag: 16), Height: 176cm/5'9", Weight: 83kg/189lbs., Chojin Power: 930,000. The main character of the story. He is the 59th prince of Planet Kinniku and son the first Kinnikuman (Suguru Kinniku) and Bibinba. Raised during times of peace, he is a spoiled, cowardly, lazy teenager, much like his father was at the beginning of the first series except with more emphasis on cowardice and less on clumsiness. He usually start matches off in a cowardly state, only managing to get a few good moves in due to luck. However, when his friends are in trouble or his opponent is being dishonorable, he manages to reach the state of Kajiba no Kuso Djikara (Burning Inner Strength). When this happens, the Niku-Mark appears on his forehead and his strength, stamina, and technique increase many fold. Because Suguru had his records annulled years ago, Mantaro never knew how great a hero his father really was until he met Meat. Mantaro was named after Ultraman Taro (Ultraman + Taro/Kinniku + Mantaro). Mantaro's favorite wrestling move is his father's signature move, the Kinniku Buster (sometimes called the Butt Buster in the English dub, though it actually translates to Muscle Buster) which he won much of his wrestling matches with until he gains his own signature move, Muscle Millennium. Mantaro is rather lecherous and lusts after many girls, but his main love interest is Rinko Nikaido (Roxanne). His favorite food is galbi bowl (Cow and Rice), which he often sings about. Trademark Techniques: Kinniku Buster, Turn Over Kinniku Buster, Kinniku Driver, Muscle Millennium, Muscle G (Gravity), Iroha Hell Tour, Mantaro Air, Back Drop.
Terry the Kid (テリー・ザ・キッド Terī Za Kiddo) / Terry "The Grand" Kenyon
Seiyuu: Toshiyuki Morikawa, Ai Nonaka (young)/Frank Frankson (US). Height: 190cm/6'2", Weight: 86kg/191.1lbs, Choujin Power: 1,050,000. Son of Texan super wrestler Terryman and Japanese reporter Natsuko Shōno. Terryman was best friends with Mantaro's father Suguru, and Terry the Kid believes Suguru stole the limelight away from Terryman. Because of this Kid has a complex against his father and Mantaro, but he soon learns the true power of friendship and changes his ways. He is initially assigned to Osaka after graduating from the Hercules Factory. He won almost half of the tournament, before he was severely hurt. Kid survives an operation after he is defeated by Scar Face (Eskara). In the Choujin Olympic qualifying round, he abandons the race to save a drowning boy (much like how his father once threw the qualifying round to save a dog), but he shows up later in the tournament as The Matenro's coach. During the Ultimate Choujin Tag arc, his complex returns and he teams up with Robin Mask instead of Mantarou. Despite the fact that they look almost identical (except for the K-mark on his forehead), possess similar behaviour patterns, and use the same techniques, Kid claims he is nothing like his father. Trademark Techniques: Calf Branding, Spinning Toe Hold, Texas Clover Hold, Kid's Triangle Choke, High Voltage Bomb, $1,000,000 Kick.
Seiuchin (セイウチン Seiuchin) / Wally Tusket
Seiyuu: Takumi Yamazaki (Ginzou Matsuo in first movie)/Madeline Blaustein (US). Height: 193cm/6'3", Weight: 145kg/322.2lbs, Choujin Power: 910,000. A big Irish walrus (seiuchi is Japanese for walrus). His mother and sister Dorothy look very similar to him. Likes to eat fish. For some reason he (and his family) look up to Mantaro. He graduated second in his class and was initially assigned to protect Hokkaidō. In The Ultimate Chojin Tag Teams, Neptuneman stunned everyone by choosing mild-mannered Seiuchin as his tag partner. Neptuneman had remembered the story of The Walrus and the Carpenter from his homeland and decided to train Seiuchin to bring out the untapped cold-blooded power in him. Trademark Techniques: STF, Ice Rock Driver.
Gazelleman (ガゼルマン Gazeruman) / Dik-Dik Van-Dik
Seiyuu: Yasunori Masutani/Eric Stuart(US). Height: 205cm/6'7", Weight: 136kg/302.2lbs, Choujin Power: 1,000,000. A Tanzanian gazelle-type wrestler. He graduated top of his class and was given the esteemed assignment of protecting Tokyo, although later in the series he's portrayed as a comical loser who's always being clobbered by evil chojin. His dub name was frequently mentioned by X-Play's Adam Sessler after the show reviewed the Gamecube game, who finds the name humorous. Trademark Techniques: Antler Fist, Savannah Heat.
The Adams (ジ・アダムス Ji Adamusu) / Ski Adams
Seiyuu: Kenji Nomura/Mark Hildreth (US). A UFO themed Chojin from California. He is named after George Adamski. He was originally assigned to the Tohoku region. He first appears as a fan submission on the cover art for chapter 374 of the original Kinnikuman.
Apollonman (アポロンマン Aporonman) / Apollo
Seiyuu: Yūki Satō. A Greek Chojin obviously inspired by the god Apollo. Assigned to the Kantō region. He first appears as a fan submission on the cover art for chapter 374 of the original Kinnikuman.
Barbarian (バーバリアン Bābarian)
Seiyuu: Takumi Yamazaki. A Kenyan Chojin assigned to the Chūbu region. He was killed by Rex King. He first appears as a fan submission on the cover art for chapter 374 of the original Kinnikuman as Animal Man.
Jairo (ジャイロ Jairo) / Gyro
An Australian Chojin in charge of the Chūgoku region. He was killed by Bone Cold.
Namul (ナムル Namuru)
A Korean Chojin who is assigned to Shikoku.
Gorgeousman (ゴージャスマン Gōjasu Man)
Seiyuu: Mahito Ohba. A native of Houston, Texas. His whole costume is a giant Confederate flag(The americanized anime recolored his costume to be completely red, as the Confederate flag is considered offensive). His forearms were horribly injured by Check Mate, but he recovered. He first appears as a fan submission on the cover art for chapter 374 of the original Kinnikuman.
Samuu (サムゥ Samū)
Seiyuu: Tetsu Inada. A wrestler from India. He lost to Ramenman on his final wrestling test. He first appears as a fan submission on the cover art for chapter 374 of the original Kinnikuman as Killer Arabian.
Canadian Boy (カナディアン・ボーイ Kanadian Bōi) / The Canuckler
Seiyuu: Mahito Ohba. Son of Canadian legend Canadianman (Manitoban).
Specialman Jr. (スペシャルマンJr. Supesharuman Juniā)

A Spanish pantomime Chojin. He first appears as a fan submission on the cover art for chapter 374 of the original Kinnikuman.

[edit] dMp Arc

Kevin Mask (ケビン・マスク Kebin Masuku)
Seiyuu: Ryotaro Okiayu/Ted Lewis (US). Homeland: England, Age: 18 (Choujin Olympics: 19, Ultimate Tag: 20), Height: 218cm/7'1.5", Weight: 155kg/344.4lbs, Choujin Power: 1,170,000. The son of English legend Robin Mask. The Spartan-like training his father put him through since childhood and the responsibility of being the successor of the prestiged Robin Family was too much for him to bear, so he ran away from home and became a member of the dMp to rebel. While in training, his life was saved by Scarface. After seeing how dishonorable the dmp was, he walked out on them and became a sort of free agent Choujin. Kevin has his own version of the Kajiba no Kuso Djikara called Maelstrom Power. He later became a finalist in the Choujin Olympics, under the training of Chloe (secretly Warsman). Although he lost in the anime version, the original manga had Kevin win the Choujin championship in the final match against Mantaro. Afterwards, he and Robin Mask seemed to have entered a love/hate relationship. In the current storyline, Kevin has been erased from existence by two Evil Choujins who have gone back in time and killed Robin Mask, prompting Mantaro and the others to go back and return things to normal. The name Kevin Mask is a play on a major wrestling star Kevin Nash. Trademark Techniques: Big Ben Edge, OLAP, Tower Bridge, Robin Special, Mach Pulverizor, Provocation Toe Kick, Royal Stretch, Tornado Fishermens Suplex.
Tel-Tel Boy (テルテル・ボーイ Teru Teru Bōi) / Dial Bolic
Seiyuu: Tomohiro Nishimura/Eric Stuart (US). A walking, talking cell phone from Hong Kong. When he was up against Mantaro, rain devastated him and his phone lines cut off from the tournament which resulted a lead to Mantaro's victory. In Japan, a teru-teru bouzu is a doll made from a tied up piece of cloth to ensure skies stay clear and rain doesn't fall.
MAXman (MAXマン Makkusu Man) / Pumpinator
Seiyuu: Tetsu Inada/Dan Green (US). The grandson of Sneagator (Shocadile), an old-generation Akuma Chojin that was defeated by Mantaro's father. He can transform into a giant athletic shoe. Mantaro figures out that a shoe's worst enemy is stepping in feces. (In the anime, it was a stinkbug.) Hails from Atlanta, Georgia.
Rex King (レックス・キング Rekkusu Kingu) / Tyrannoclaw
Seiyuu: Shinichiro Ohta/Marc Thompson (US). One of Sunshine's star pupils, Rex King is from the United States. (probably from Dinosaur, Colorado) His special attack is called the "Jurassic Hand" with which his hand becomes a dinosaur hand. In truth, he is actually is a dinosaur and his "Jurassic Hand" is his real head and what appears to be his "head" is a fake. He pummeled Terry the Kid with his brutal attacks, but Mantaro helped out Terry by telling chillingly bad jokes (coldness being a dinosaur's weakness).
Check Mate (チェックメイト Chekkumeito)
Seiyuu: Kouichi Toochika/Wayne Grayson (US). Height: 221cm/7'2.5", Weight: 190-800kg/422.2-1777.78lbs, Choujin Power: 1,210,000. An Akugyo Chojin from Monaco trained by Sunshine. At first he is a sadist that is incabable of feeling pain, but after being bested by Mantaro, he turns over a new leaf and became a New Generation Seigi Chojin. In the Ultimate Choujin Tag Arc he turneded down Seiuchin's offer to form a tag team. Because of this, he became the first victim of Seiuchin and Neptuneman's Optical Fiber Cross Bomber, resulting in the skin on his face being peeled off. His attacks are modelled after chess pieces for King, Knight, and Rook. He can fuse them and his normal form together in a technique known as Grand Slam. Trademark Techniques: Chess Piece Change, Stallion Style Honorable Driver, Centaurus Black Neigh, Rook Sky Twister.
Bone Killer (ボーン・キラー Bōn Kirā) / Addversarious
Seiyuu: Norio Wakamoto/Eric Stuart (US). Mantaro's first opponent. A dMp agent from Peru. Can extend the cross/plus symbol on his chest outward to crush enemies. In the anime he was called Blood Killer, so as not to be confused with Bone Cold. He first appears as a fan submission on the cover art for chapter 374 of the original Kinnikuman as Wizardman.
Anaconda (アナコンダ Anakonda) / Boaconda
Seiyuu: Tetsu Inada/Jimmy Zoppi (US). Mantaro's second opponent; he impersonated Special Man Jr. and fought Mantaro in a caged death match at the Hercules Factory. If it wasn't for Terry the Kid throwing peanuts at Anaconda, Mantaro wouldn't have defeated him. From India. He first appears as a fan submission on the cover art for chapter 374 of the original Kinnikuman as Snaker King.
Kirinman (麒麟男) / Doomsmane
A Qilin wrestler from China and the head of the dMp Perfect Chojin. He and Shimaō were taking some of Sunshine's students to add to theirs. They were destroyed when Sunshine blew up their HQ. He first appears as a fan submission on the cover art for chapter 374 of the original Kinnikuman.
Shimaō (屍魔王) / Skulldozer
A demon-like wrestler from Brazil and the head of the dMp Zangyaku Chojin. He and Kirinman were taking some of Sunshine's students to add to theirs. They were destroyed when Sunshine blew up their HQ. He first appears as a fan submission on the cover art for chapter 374 of the original Kinnikuman.
Yashamu (夜叉武)
A Japanese Yaksha-themed villain. Defeated by Gazelleman in the V-Jump manga. He first appears as a fan submission on the cover art for chapter 374 of the original Kinnikuman.
The Flowerdust (ザ・フラワーダスト)
A big flower from the Netherlands. Presumably he died in the dMp explosion. He first appears as a fan submission on the cover art for chapter 374 of the original Kinnikuman.
Shumokūn (シュモクーン)
A hammerhead shark from Tahiti. Despite his fearsome appearance, he has a softer side.
The Fax (ザ・ファックス Za Fakkusu)
A former grade school classmate of Gazelleman from Tanzania who fell in with the dMp. A living fax machine; he can fax other chojin to and fro. Only appeared in the V-Jump manga.
Toilet Paper Mummy (ペーパーミイラ, Peepaa Miira)
An Egyptian chojin "faxed" in by The Fax. Only appeared in the V-Jump manga.
Captain Makkou (キャプテン・マッコウ Kyaputin Makkou)
Danish Sperm Whale chojin, he was brainwashed by Shimaō into joining the dMp. Only appeared in the V-Jump manga.

[edit] HF Second Year Replacement Matches Arc

Jade (ジェイド Jeido) / Jeager
Seiyuu: Kenji Nojima, Fumiko Orikasa (young)/Wayne Grayson (US). Height: 187cm/6'1", Weight: 93kg/206.67lbs, Choujin Power: 950,000. Brocken Jr.'s German pupil, first introduced as a member of Generation EX. His nickname is "Berlin's Green Arrow", as he wears a green uniform and bicyclist's helmet. An orphan, he was raised by an eldery couple, who were subsequently slain by a trio of anti-superhuman thugs. This incident was what inspired Jade to seek Brocken's guidance in becoming a champion for those unable to defend themselves. (In the anime, he is later revealed to be Brocken's son, though this is not the case in the manga.) Jade's ultimate attack is Brocken's "The Red Rain of Pain" (a.k.a. "Red Rain of Berlin", a chop-like attack capable of cutting right through a superhuman's body). According to Brocken, it works on the principle of "cutting the flesh to cut the meat, cutting the meat to cut the bone, cutting the bone to cut the core". However, Jade's version differs from Brocken's in that Jade actually causes a blade to protrude from his hand before slashing, and his hand/arm is usually engulfed in flames before he delivers the attack. Jade's second favourite move is the "Beefcake Hammer", where he shifts behind the opponent, raises one of his opponent's legs and crosses the opponent's arms around it before executing a leaping suplex. In a grueling concrete deathmatch, Jade is defeated by Scarface (Eskara/Mars) in Maui, Hawaii, and fails to enter the finals. Though Scarface twists off Jade's right arm, it is later reattached. He later participates in the Chojin Crown. Unfortunately, he suffers another defeat, this time to yet another dMp member in disguise (Ricardo).
Scarface (Mars) (スカーフェイス Sukāfeisu) / Eskara
Seiyuu: Kenji Nomura/Marc Thompson (US). An Italian dMp that infiltrated the Hercules Factory under the guise of a mafia bruiser. His true name is Mars. Back at the dMp, he helped Kevin Mask survive the intense training, gaining a scar on his back in the process. Mars's specialty is that he imitates (and then improves) the special moves of other chojin. The previously mentioned scar on his back proved to be his undoing when he became the first victim of Mantaro's Muscle Millennium. He later fights for good as an "Idol Chojin". During the Ulitimate Choujin Tag Arc, he dons his overbody once again for the fight with the Hell Expansions. Likely due to the fact that the letters "L" and "R" are interchangeable in the Japanese language, Mars's name is often mistakingly called "Malice" by English-speaking fans.
Clioneman (クリオネマン Kurioneman) / Hydrozoa
Seiyuu: Takuro Takahashi/Dan Green (US). A clione Chojin from Russia. Hydrozoa can transform his body into several things, including a giant squid, a jellyfish, and a magnifying glass to use the sun's rays to create a deadly laser-type weapon. Hydrozoa's special move is the XYZ Crash, named so because XYZ are the last letters of the English alphabet, meaning that his matches end once he hits the move. He savagely defeated Wally Tusket in his match, but was beaten by Mantaro in the second round.
Dead Signal (デッド・シグナル Deddo Shigunaru) / Road Rage
Seiyuu: Tetsu Inada/Sebastian Arcelus (US). A living Traffic light from Japan. He can control his opponents movements by using various roads signs. Dead Signal's special move is the Sign Rotary Saw where the sign that makes up his head spins around like a buzzsaw blade to slice into his opponent. He was defeated by Mantaro in the first round of the Replacement Tournament (also the only member of Generation EX to lose in the first round).
Rinko Nikaidō (二階堂凛子 Nikaidō Rinko) / Roxanne
Seiyuu: Fumiko Orikasa/Lisa Ortiz (US). Birthdate: September 9. A girl that was adopted at infancy by Suguru's old girlfriend Mari Nikaido. Mantaro falls in love with her when he first meets her, though she doesn't always seem to return the sentiment. She refers to Mantaro as Manta. In the original manga she was a kogal, but in the anime she was portrayed as a regular high school student wrestling fan.
Keiko (恵子) / Kiki
Seiyuu: Ai Nonaka/Kerry Williams (US). A friend of Roxanne's that was bullied in school. She almost ended up prostituting herself to The Rigani to pay off the bullies.
Tamaki Maekawa (前川たまき Maekawa Tamaki) / Trixie
Seiyuu: Reiko Kiuchi/Megan Hollingshead(US). A ganguro kogal that bullied Keiko, she later befriends Roxanne and Keiko.
Dorothy
Seiyuu: Ryō HirohashiFumiko Orikasa (Ultimate Muscle), Wally's little sister who admires Mantaro.
The Rigany (THE・リガニー Za Riganī) / Cranky Doodle Craw Daddy
Seiyuu: Takumi Yamazaki/Ted Lewis(US). An American crawfish wrestler from New Orleans and one of a few remnants of the dMp. Under the name "Masakazu Tamura", he would put on a (barely) human disguise and appear at singles bars. Keiko agreed to compensated dating with him, but Rinko stepped in and saved her. He captured Rinko and Mantaro had to fight him. ("The Rigany" is a Japanese pun on Zarigani (crawfish).)
Bath the Shower (バス・ザ・シャワー Basu Za Shawā)
A living bathtub from Finland. Appeared only in the V-Jump manga.

[edit] Kajiba no Kuso Djikara Challenge Arc

Mince / Minch
Seiyuu: Naoki Tatsuta/Darren Dunstan(US). Chief of the Churrasco Tribe. He is Meat's long-lost father.
Fork the Giant (フォーク・ザ・ジャイアント) / Forkolossus
Seiyuu: Toshiyuki Morikawa/Frank Frankson(US). No Respect No. 1. A murderous, living forklift from planet Doboku. His first victim was a nagging boss. Relies on the power of hatred. Loses his hands (injury self-inflicted).
Hanzō (ハンゾウ)
Seiyuu: Kazuya Nakai/Eric Stuart(US). No Respect No. 2. From the planet Iga, his life was destroyed when his face was practically burned off as a baby (which gave him a lifelong fear of fire). Embittered from being tormented about his looks, he turned to evil, skinning his enemies' faces and wearing them. Special moves include Bewitching Blade, "Kugutsu Hitogata" (Tatami Puppet) and "Otsura Chōdai" (Mt. Fuji Facelift). Killed The Ninja before his match with Mantaro. He returns as an Idol Choujin during the Demon Seed Arc and fights Gepparland. After defeating Gepparland they are both killed by General Terror, but Hanzou is later revived by the Reborn Diamond. He has yet to make an appearance during the Ultimate Tag arc.
  • Nicknames
  • Brute Chojin
  • Horrific Faced Brute Chojin
Bone Cold (ボーン・コールド)
Seiyuu: Nobuyuki Hiyama/Sean Schemmel(US). Height: 204cm/6'8" Weight: 147kg/326.6 lbs. No Respect No. 3. Bone Cold was the most deadly and vile of No Respect, and is the son of Kinkotsuman (Skullduggery), an old rival of Kinnikuman and Terryman. Was abused and harshly trained by his father and ran away from home. Bone Cold is an assassin, taking requests from criminals to kill Chojin. Without a paid contract, Bone Cold does not kill, making him different from his teammates. His name is an obvious play on Stone Cold Steve Austin. The translated Viz manga uses the name "Lone Bone Cold". Special moves include (as translated to English in the manga) Shooting Arrow, 3-D Crush and Nasty Gimlet.
Kokumo (コクモ)
Seiyuu: Yasunori Masutani. The Ninja's student who was killed by Hanzou.

[edit] Chojin Olympics: The Resurrection (Anime: Choujin World Grand Prix)

Ikemen Muscle (イケメン・マッスル)
Seiyuu: Tetsu InadaShinichiro Ohta. Harabote's son. He takes over his position as chairman of the Choujin Olympics. He is not related to the Muscle (Kinniku) family. Is ridiculed about his face, and hates Mantaro greatly.
Jacqueline Muscle (ジャクリーン・マッスル)
Seiyuu: Junko Noda/Kathleen Delaney(US). Harabote's daughter and Ikemen's younger sister. She is beautiful and busty but prefers violent matches and can be pretty mean (she can even make Ikemen cry). She becomes kinder after the Mantaro/Kevin Mask bout and even supports Rinko and Mantarou hooking up.
Croe (クロエ) / Lord Flash
Seiyuu: Hideyuki TanakaEiji Takemoto/Madeline Blaustein(US). Kevin Mask's second and the only person he trusts. In actuality, he is Robin Mask's former student Warsman. Kevin's OLAP technique is a reversed version of Warsman's Palo Special and other technique's of Kevin's are based off his.
Ricardo (ヒカルド)
Seiyuu: Toshiyuki Morikawa/Wayne Grayson(US). A Brazilian Submission Artist. Choujin Power: 1,180,000. When he cracks up, his dMp roots are revealed and he turns into the "Lord of Darkness", a merciless fighting machine. In an electrifying semifinal match (literally), Ricardo is beaten by Mantarou. He has yet to make a second appearance. Trademark Techniques: Torture Slash, Zuffara.

Seiyuu: Tomohisa Asou. Ricardo's trainer who taught him his many submission moves.

Seiyuu: Kouichi Toochika/Madeleine Blaustein(US). Homeland: Russia. Choujin Power: 1,200,000. A wrestler that can transform into various forms of aircraft. He first shows up during the final prelim (the three-legged race) with Meat as his partner. He defeated Detruction in the 2nd Round but lost to Kevin Mask in the semifinals. He shows up again on the side of good during the Demon Seed arc and fights Meltdown. He teams up with Barrierfreeman as Fireball - Flying Fogey Squad during the Ultimate Choujin Tag Arc. His name is a parody of the Ilyushin aircraft manufacturer company and Sambo Fighter Mikhail Ilioukhine[1]. Nicknames: Red Aircraft of Death. Trademark Techniques: Death Airplane, The Turbulence.
Barrierfreeman (バリアフリーマン)

Chaos (カオス)
A young man who grew up in the Gakincho House (がきんちょハウス?) orphanage. He is a huge Choujin Otaku and has an extensive collection of Choujin items, including Kinkeshi (M.U.S.C.L.E.) figurines. In order to earn money for his orphanage, he would take part in a bogus Choujin Wrestling show as Butanikuman (ブタ肉マン, Porkman?). After seeing his potential, Mantarou invites him to team up as the Muscle Brothers Nouveau and participate in the Ultimate Choujin Tag Tournament. Because he was a human he was not allowed to participate in the tournament, so he obtained the Kinnikuman Great mask in order to hide his identity and pose as a Choujin.
Though he claims to be a human and not a Choujin, as a child a horn grew on the side of his head. Currently the horn is gone and in it's place is a keyhole shaped hole, a characteristic shared with the Time Choujins. Also, when the Time Choujins used their Legendary Destruction Bell, he suffered along with the other choujin.
When he was younger his parents and fellow villagers were murdered, the trauma of which causes him to occasionally go into spasms (at which point his fighting strength is weakened). On said occasions he is given a sedative (given in the same manner as asthma medication).
He refers to himself in the first person as Wachiki (ワチキ?) (occasionally using the more common Boku (ボク?)). When he overhears Meat encouraging Mantarou to give up on the tag team, he goes into shock and tries to run away. But in order to obtain the key (courage) to open his sealed memory, he returns to the tournament.
The Great Mask still has the tear in the forehead from the Dream Tag Tournament, so Chaos' hair sticks out.

Team of Jade and Scarface. The name comes from them excelling at three things: Technique, Strength, and Looks. Currently fighting the Hell Expansions. Tag Techniques: Red Rain Swallow.

After he punches Meteorman in a fist to fist attack, Meteorman gets a stabbing wound on his knuckles in the pattern of Warsman's Bear Claws. He also used the Storm Elbow technique and performs a Screw Driver when coming out of the bear costume.

[edit] Tournaments

  • New Generation Replacement Tournament - After being fed up with four of the New Generation (Kid Muscle, Terry Kenyon, Wally Tusket and Dik Dik Van Dik... a.k.a. Team AHO) slacking off, chairman Vance McMadd devised a tournament where they would have to fight four rookies (Jaeger, Scarface, Road Rage and Hydrazoa... a.k.a. Generation EX) for the right to be stationed in Japan. If all combatants from either side were eliminated, the other side would win, even if they did not make it to the finals. All of Team AHO was defeated in the first round except for Kid Muscle. Kid Muscle would make it to the finals against Scarface (now revealed to be Mars, part of the dMp) and win to keep he and his friends stationed in Japan.
  • Chojin Olympics/Chojin Crown - The tournament which Kid Muscle reluctantly participates in. After going along with the obstacles, (made so that he could not participate), he qualified. The tournament featured Kid Muscle against Kevin Mask in the finals. Their fathers had faced each other in the finals several years before, Kid's father being the winner of that encounter. The outcome of the match has a bit of controversy surrounding it. In the original manga, Kevin Mask won the Chojin Crown. However, the anime had Kid Muscle come out as the victor. Some fans would have preferred that the anime kept the original ending to the fight with Kevin being the winner. The most probable reason for the ending change was so that the anime could end on a high note, having the main star win in the final battle. If the anime series were to continue beyond that, the original ending most likely would have been used.

A gag from Kinnikuman II #27 that lampoons the American censorship - The page is from a scanlation

The Viz manga uses the English anime names and was initially edited to be more in line with the North American anime release, while keeping a T+ (for ages 16 and up) rating. In other words, Viz got rid of the comical nudity by placing underwear or swimsuits on the characters and redrew any erections. Some fans find these edits ridiculous, since the T+ rating is about equivalent to an R rating, which have been known to get away with allowing nudity and because Viz has allowed nudity to appear in other manga they have published (such as InuYasha, Ranma 1/2, I"s, Naruto, and Dragon Ball, which the fourth and fifth one mentioned was published at a T rating for ages 13 and up). Viz Media began toning down the editing of the manga in issue 14, preserving the clothed erections but still removing any nudity or harsh profanity. By issue 16, all illustrated censorship stopped, as the issue contained multiple erections and a multitude of female breasts.

The most extensive act of censorship and editing was on the English language version of the anime by 4Kids Entertainment. All the characters with kanji on their foreheads (save Mantaro) had these kanji digitally erased. Yudetamago were told that it was done because Americans were afraid their children would write on their foreheads with markers, but in reality it was done to Americanize it.[citation needed] After the anime was cancelled in Japan, Fox Broadcasting Company ordered a second season made for the American market and ordered Toei Animation not to draw the offending forehead kanji. When this second season was later broadcast in Japan, many Japanese fans were confused or angered by the change.
