Ulthuan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Warhammer Fantasy, the Isle of Ulthuan is home to the High Elves. It is located in the ocean between the Old World (equivalent of Europe) and the New World (North America). It is similar to many legends of Atlantis. During the civil war between the High Elves and their kin the Dark Elves, referred to as The Sundering, the greatest of the Elven mages cast a devastating spell to wipe out the Dark Elves from Ulthuan, but in doing so, caused much of the outer lands of the island nation to sink beneath the waves. There are ten kingdoms of Ulthuan. These are:

Avelorn: Home of the Everqueen, Alarielle. This land is covered in lush forest and is home to Pegasi, Unicorns, and Giant Eagles. Avelorn is the oldest kingdom of Ulthuan and it is from here that the Everqueens have ruled throughout the centuries from the Gaen Vale, a rich valley where they sing and dance with their courtiers the Handmaidens of the Everqueen, beautiful and skilled female warriors.

Caledor: The most martial and proudest of the realms. Caledor was once the heart of Ulthuan's power with its mighty Mage-Princes and their great Dragon Mounts. Sadly, today the remaining Princes ride warhorses decorated in the armor of dragons, a sad echo of days long past.

Chrace: Home of the White Lions of Chrace, wood-elves possessing great strength and wielding large axes, who act as a ceremonial bodyguard to the phoenix king. The elfs of Chrace are also the first line of defence against dark elf attacks, and are so more bitter and warelike than the elfs of the other realms. Since the time of Lord Salendor of Tor Achre (the "capital" of chrace) the Chracians have aso held a greater disdain for magic than the other realms. This is because Lord Salendor was a mage and his magic failing to bring him safely home from the war of the beard. The elfs of chrace also disdain the politics of their elf brethren, as the death of lords and generals are so commonplace in chrace, a simple line of sucession is needed.

Cothique: A coastal realm, whose main industries involve shipping, trading, and fishing. Not much is ever said about Cotique.

Eataine: Home to the greatest city in Ulthuan, Lothern. This great city is home to tens of thousands of elves and is the bustling centre of trade. It is guarded by 10,000 Lothern Sea Guard and numerous impenetrable defenses. It houses the glittering lighthouse (This is never stated what it is, but its likely its the royal palace)and the massive seagates. The seagates can effectivly cut of all naval transport from the outer and inner sea.

Ellyrion: Home of the horselords. The elves here learn to ride as soon as they can walk and are the greatest horsemen in Ulthuan. The capital of Ellyrion is Tor Elyr. Together with chrace the first of the nothern realms that pledged its full support to Caledor the first.

Nagarythe: This is the land from where the drucii originally hail from(Also where Anarion hails from) , most of it sunk beneth the sea when the black arks where ripped away and when the dark efls sought to sink ulthuan in to the waves. Now days its ruled by the Shadow warriors, the last remaining elfs of Nagarythe that still remain loyal to the Phoenix king. The capital is Anlec which Malekith every now and then reconquers. (Some claim that when Anarion where Phoenix King Anlec were the capital of all Ulthuan)

Tiranoc: A sunken realm still recovering from the Sundering. It is home to great charioteers. The capital were Tor Anroc, but it sunk beneth the waves. Its not stated which city's currently the capital of of Tiranoc. The elfs of tor Anroc (named after the sunken capital) in the old world decend from here. (Gilead te tuin Lothain ut tor Anroc for an example)

Saphery: Home of the Mages of Ulthuan, who reside in the miles-high Tower of Hoeth, where all the knowledge of the elves is stored. The tower were built by Bel-Korhandis the Scholar King. It is guarded zealously by the swordmasters of Hoeth, the most skilled swordsmen in the world.

Yvresse: The most sparsely-populated elven realm, it has only one city, Tor Yvresse. Eltharion was warden here before he set out too fight Malekith in Anlec.
