Ulrika Skogby

Ulrika Skogby is a vocalist born in Athens that is well known in the lesbian and gay community in Stockholm Sweden. She has played on street corners in Paris and Stockholm and always shows up for Stockholm Pride and International Women's Day to sing. She studied at Berklee College of Music for five years with a yearly scholarship and received a BA as a vocalist and performance major in 1997. She received the Outstanding performer award at Berklee the same year. In between her studies she did concerts in Stockholm,Latvia, Estonia, Finland and Germany and Greece. Among others she has performed with Ronnie Gardiner (drums) and Tommy Berndtsson (piano). She became a Speech Instructor in 2003 with an MA from SMI (University College of Music Education.

In 1995 Skogby and the American-Swedish film critic and cineaste Moira Sullivan became one of the first lesbian couples to become registered partners in Sweden. They actively promoted women's culture with film events and music concerts in Stockholm from 1992-2006.

”Out is in” was a 1995 show Skogby wrote and produced mixing stand up comedy and jazz. It received a lot of attention in the media and Ulrika was featured in several TV and radio shows. She toured around Sweden and also performed with an American version of the show in Boston.

The concept ”stand up and jazz” is now a common theme when Ulrika performs. She used it in her shows ”Ulrika Skogby show….U” (2005) and ”Tasteless” (2006). Adopted from Greece, the latest show takes up her outsider status in Sweden.
