U. glaucescens var. glaucescens L. K. Fu is distinguished by Fu et al. (2002) as having "Samara glabrous except stigmatic surface pubescence in notch. Fl. and fr. March - May." The tree is endemic to mountain slopes at between 2000 m - 2400 m in the provinces of Gansu, Hebei, Henan, Liaoning, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, eastern Qinghai, Shaanxi, Shandong, and Shanxi.
