Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ukraine was represented by Ruslana and the song "Wild Dances". Just like in 2003, Ukraine selected their song internally rather than holding a national final. Many artists submitted their applications and songs, which were then reviewed by a jury, which eventually led to Ruslana going to Istanbul. The lyrics of the song are written by Oleksandr Ksenofontov and the music is composed by Ruslana herself.
At Eurovision, Ruslana delivered a very powerful and memorable performance dressed in Amazon-like outfits. Ruslana and her dancers performed an effective dance routine. After qualifying from the semi-final, Ruslana was declared the winner of Eurovision 2004, gathering 280 points from 35 out of 36 competing countries. The song enjoyed great success all across European charts, gaining lots of radio airplay.
