UK Astrological Association

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Astrological Association of Great Britain (AABG) - one of the oldest and most highly regarded associations of astrologers in the world, is based in London, UK. It split from The Astrological Lodge of London in 1958 in order that their members could pursue astrological studies without incorporating Theosophical material.

Founded on 21 June 1958 at 7.22 pm, in London UK, by Brigadier Firebrace, and John Addey, supported by Margaret Hone, Charles Carter and many other notable astrologers. John Addey was the first president. Within one year of foundation, the association had already attracted its first 130 members.

Membership is open to all with an interest in astrology. There are 1,250 members as of January 1st 2006 (the AA website says 1600, but this seems to be an average figure over a period of years), two thirds of whom are UK residents; the rest are from the United States, Australia, Russia, Japan, among other countries. Membership fluctuates between 1200 and 1800 over time.

Past presidents of the AAGB include Charles Harvey who took over from John Addey in 1972 and Nicholas Campion who took over from Charles Harvey in 1994.

The association publishes a bi-monthly periodical, the "Astrological Journal" (ed. Gerasime Patilas). Other regular AA publications include the newsletter "Transit" (ed. Val Dobson), the research journal "Correlation" (ed. Pat Harris, Correlation and Cosmos, a journal of cultural astronomy (ed. Nicholas Campion)and "The Medical Astrology Newsletter" (ed. Wanda Sellar).

It also organizes an annual conference and astrological events, each one attended by 150 to 600 delegates with multi-track lectures from dozens of the world's top astrologers. A research conference, Kepler Day, is held in the spring.

It also awards grants to astrologers for various criteria including the study of astrology in Higher Education.

Is currently raising funds to purchase a permanent headquarters.
