Uganda National Congress (UNC), Ugandas first political party was formed in 1952 by Ignatius Musaazi. It replaced the Uganda African Farmers Union after it was banned by the British colonial administration.
In 1960 the Uganda National Congress split into two factions, and one under the leadership of Milton Obote merged with Uganda Peoples Union to form the Uganda Peoples Congress, with Obote as its leader.
