UEA Angels

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The UEA Angels are a cheerleading team based at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England.

The Angels was formed as a student society in 2000 by two UEA students, Alexandra Sim-Wise and Clare Askew, and officially came into existence in the beginning of the academic year of 2001. The Student Union Constitution requires each UEA club or society to have a President, Treasurer and Secretary, therefore Sim-Wise became the first President, Askew the first Treasurer and new recruit, Lucy Wraith, became the first Secretary. At this juncture, the primary function of the Angels was to cheer at UEA sports matches and perform dance routines at the "LCR". The Angels soon developed a strong affiliation with the UEA Pirates American Football team, and the Angels began cheering at all of the Pirates games.

In 2004 the Angels made their first appearance at the BCA University Cheerleading Competition in Reading. The following year, in addition to the BCA competition, the Angels began competing at the UKCA National Cheerleading Competition.
