Ual (grinder)

Ual(pronounced as woo-aal) is a sandwatch shaped grinding tool used by the bodos.

The bodos use wood for making an ual.For making the base or the body trunk of a tree is cut and then a circular core is made at the top of it so as to hold the stuffs for grinding.Then finally a sandwatch shape is given to it.The handle of ual which is used for ramming the contents in the body of the ual is also made of wood.The handle is long cylinder shaped provided with a trough at the appropriate position for holding it.The two ends of the handle is provided with circular metal rings for its longevity.

The bodos use the ual basically for grinding rice grains.The grinded rice grains can then be used for making different cuisines like onla,pitha etc.Other stuffs like mixture of leaves or dry fish etc. are also grinded in ual.
