Unione Sportiva Novese is a football club from Novi Ligure, Piedmont, Italy. The club has won Serie A in the past, but currently play in the Piedmontese Eccellenza division.

[edit] History

Novese was founded in 1919 and entered Italian history by winning the national (FIGC) football title in 1921-22, a season when there were two competing major leagues in Italian football: the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio and the breakaway Confederazione Calcistica Italiana. (The CCI included most of the richer and more successful clubs.)

The club has since declined to amateur status and currently plays in the Eccellenza league, the Italian sixth division.

See Italian football league system for more on the Eccellenza and on the FIGC/CCI split.
