Tyrrelstown

Tyrrelstown is a rapidly expanding village in the North West of Dublin, Ireland. It is located approximately 14 km from central Dublin. The area is classified as Dublin 15 by the postal system and the local authority for the area is Fingal County Council.

Tyrrelstown is often incorrectly spelt as Tyrellstown or even Tyrrellstown. It derives its name from that of the Tyrrell family, who were granted the lands in the parishes of Clonsilla and Mulhuddart in 1178 by the Norman, Hugh DeLacy. 1. Historically Tyrrelstown is part of the Barony of Castleknock which had its focal point at Castleknock Castle and much of area's history is intertwined with that of Cruiserath, Castleknock, Mulhuddart and other adjacent places..

Tyrrelstown is located South of Hollystown Golf Course, North of Mulhuddart, to the West of Cruiserath and set between the Navan Road (N3) and Ashborne Road ( N2).

Located nearby is Damastown Industrial Estate, one of Dublin's largest industrial estates which includes a large IBM Campus employing over 4,000 people. Also in nearby Cruiserath, there are premises for the pharmaceutical corporation Bristol-Myers Squibb and beyond that is Blanchardstown Corporate Park which features offices belonging to Ebay, Ask.Com and WeLocalize, a multinational Software Localization company.

A new retail area known as Tyrrelstown Town Centre opened on November 24th 2005 and has been created as part of the recent housing developments to cater for the local inhabitants. A 4 star luxury Park Plaza hotel was opened in 2006 leading the way for a retail park which will contain over 200,000 square feet of shopping facilities. Other local amenities include a national school (Still to be built), a creche, a large supermarket, a convenience sized supermarket, a pub, an off licence, a restaurant, several fast food outlets, a pharmacy, a medical centre and a coffee shop and dont forget Brownes Barbers.

Tyrrelstown is served primarily by the 38C and 40D Dublin Bus routes. A new N2 - N3 link road is being built. By road it is accessible via Mulhuddart, Hollystown and Cruiserath.

Tyrrelstown was created by Dublin property company TwinLite Developments and launched in 2001. Other development companies involved include McInerney Construction, Kranok Construction and Merville Homes. Originally the site was zoned for a landfill that was scrapped, the town now hosts over 4,000 inhabitants and is set to expand further.
