Introduced in 1930, the Type 89 I-Go was a medium tank based off of the Vickers Medium C Tank that had been imported by the Imperial Japanese Army. Using the import as a reference, Japanese engineers replaced the original engine with an air-cooled Mitsubishi model. It saw plenty of action before WW2, with an admirable record, but quickly became out-moded in WW2 by the superior Soviet and American tanks. A later model known as the Type B or the "Otsu" was equipped with a more potent 57mm gun.
