Wikipedia:Two-million pool

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shortcut:
WP:2MP

This was a pool for predicting the date at which the number of articles (as defined by the official article count presented on the Special:statistics) in the English Wikipedia reaches 2,000,000 (two million). The person who comes closest to the actual date is the winner (of eternal fame). The current number of articles in the English Wikipedia is 1,730,213.

This pool was closed for entries when the English Wikipedia article count reached 1,000,000 on March 1, 2006 at 23:09 (UTC) (see Wikipedia:Million pool). So be sure to have placed your guess before then. This pool opened on March 20, 2005, shortly after the 500,000th article was created.

This pool is now closed. Any future entries will be reverted.

Milestone pools that are still open include the following: Wikipedia:Five-million pool and Wikipedia:Ten-million pool

For non-serious topical pools, see Millionth topic pool, Two-millionth topic pool, and Last topic pool.

It is currently 2007 April 10 (UTC). Guesses for prior dates will still be eligible to win if a later guess isn't closer to the actual date than the earlier date. Please be aware, however, that attempts at guessing a prior date may be seen by some as a humor entry.

  • What if some mad scientist uses his Mega-Super-Evil-Yet-Awesome Gravity Ray Thing to slow down Earth's orbit around the sun, therefore necessitating the creation of an eighth day of the week, and Wikipedia reaches 2,000,000 articles on that day, huh? ;) --OneofThem 01:27, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Ninth day of week

God said, "Let there be a free encylopedia in the midst of mankind, and let it be editable by anyone." So God put the concept of a wiki in to the head of mankind, and man used it to create a free encylopedia. And it was so. God called to the free encylopedia: "Wikipedia." And there was evening and there was morning, a ninth day. ems 12:11, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
