Two Songs by the Microphones is a 7" record released in early 2007 by the band The Microphones on P.W. Elverum & Sun Lmt.,Idealists (ELV012). Although Phil Elverum, the principle member of the band and manager of P.W. Elverum & Sun, had changed the name of his musical entity to Mount Eerie in 2004, it is unclear why he released this single under the original Microphones moniker. At recent shows, Phil had debuted these singles without specifying whether or not they were to be considered by Mount Eerie or The Microphones.
The single is pressed on either white or clear vinyl and will be officially released to stores in March of 2007.
The A-side is "Don't Smoke" and the b-side is "Get Off the Internet"
The songs feature Elverum's ditinctive guitars, organs, and distorted drums. There is also an underlying theme of preaching the benefits of healthier life, working manual labour, getting off the Internet, and, of course, not smoking.
