Twisted Metal 2: World Tour is the second game in the Twisted Metal vehicular combat series. It was developed by the game studio Incog Inc., published by Sony, and released in 1996 for Playstation and PC. The IBM PC version features slightly cut-down graphics compared to the Playstation version (minor details of some levels disappeared) but it doesn't require a 3D accelerator video card and plays well on weak computers. It also features multiplayer mode over a modem line or Internet.
Two years after its release, Twisted Metal 2 was rereleased as Playstation Greatest Hits game.

[edit] Overview
In concept, Twisted Metal 2 is a demolition derby which permits the usage of ballistic projectiles. Players choose a vehicle and an arena—or a series of arenas in the story mode—to engage in battle with opposing drivers. A variety of weapons and upgrades are obtainable by pick-ups scattered throughout the stage. The last driver alive is the winner.
A man named Calypso is the host of a vehicular combat tournament called Twisted Metal. He promises to grant the winner of the tournament one wish. There is a general "be careful what you wish for" theme, as many of the contestants wind up with not-so-happy endings.

[edit] Axel
Strange two-wheeled contraption which has imprisoned the driver for many years. He has entered the contest to find the man who placed him in the vehicle.

- Special weapon: Supernova Shockwave—Axel sends out an expanding shockwave from his platform that knocks opponents up into the air, leaving them vulnerable.

This underage driver is so desperate to find her father that she lied about her age to enter the Twisted Metal tournament. If she wins, she plans to ask Calypso to let her finally meet her dad face-to-face.

- Special weapon: Leap n' Slam—Grasshopper jumps up and crashes into opponents from above. This will cause some damage to herself as well unless a shield is utilized simultaneously.

Mike and Stu are two punks looking for the ultimate high. If they win, they'll ask Calypso for the ability to fly.

- Special weapon: Monster Crush—Hammerhead has the ability to crush opponents by driving over their vehicles.

A red motorcycle with a sidecar driven, presumably, by the Grim Reaper. His greatest desire is to cause Armageddon and feast on the human souls left in the wake.

- Special weapon: Screaming Soul—Mr. Grimm's special fires a bloody skull straight ahead from his vehicle. The special is one of the most powerful in the game even though it has no homing capabilities and takes a long time to recharge.

This former architect dreams of building the tallest tower in the world, one that can reach the gates of Heaven.

- Driver info: Male, 30 years old
- Vehicle type: Front loader
- Special weapon: Grab and Slam—Mr. Slam's special causes the grapple on the front of his vehicle to raise and then slam onto the ground. Any cars within the grapple's range when it slams into the ground are then grabbed and slammed twice before getting tossed away.

A female officer searching for her brother, the original Outlaw, who disappeared in last year's contest. She'll ask Calypso to reunite her and her brother if she wins the tournament.

- Vehicle type: Police car
- Special weapon: Omni Taser—Outlaw 2's taser grabs onto the nearest car and lifts it up into the air. A missed taser does not grab any enemies; instead, it rotates around Outlaw's vehicle uselessly before disappearing.

Orange scraped-together car driven by a homeless man convinced that the world is one big nightmare. If he wins this tournament, he plans to ask Calypso for his sanity.

- Special weapon: Boomerang Blast—Roadkill's special features a boomerang missile that is unique in that, if there are no enemies nearby when it's fired, it returns to Roadkill and the special's bar will remain fully charged. In addition, a return-trip boomerang does triple the damage.

A mysterious man helps souls who met untimely deaths. He is hoping to get revenge on their killers if he wins this twisted tournament.

- Special weapon: Soul Shadow—Shadow first releases his special, and then detonates it on command.

Spectre is driven by a man with dreams of fame and fortune. However, if he wins, he just may find out that there are worse things than being unknown.

- Special weapon: Ghost Missiles—Spectre sends out missiles with unparalled homing capabilities...not to mention the ability to travel through walls.

In last year's tournament, Bruce fought for others. This year he's fighting for himself.

- Special weapon: Ultra Flame Thrower—Thumper's flamethrower is arguably the strongest special in the game.

This chick is obsessed with superspeed. She can't get enough, and if she wins, she'll ask Calypso to give her the ability to race at the speed of light.

- Vehicle type: Formula One race car
- Special weapon: Tornado Spin—Twister's vehicle is capable of twisting around, essentially creating a tornado. It's difficult to use, but once an enemy gets caught, there is no way to escape.

This former army captain wants nothing more than to win back his youth. And that's exactly what he'll ask for if he wins this tournament and gets the chance to ask Calypso to grant his wish.

- Special Weapon: Patriot Missiles—Warthog releases three powerful missiles that get ever-more powerful the further they travel...until eventually they turn into harmless fireballs.

[edit] Dark Tooth
Boss of Hong Kong. Gigantic black ice cream truck driven by Charlie Kane. He rises out of the sewers of Hong Kong for brutal revenge for the surviving car's actions and challenges the survivor to one last battle. He has several specials and two forms. His first form is the huge black and pink ice-cream truck which has 3 different specials. The first special is Dual Homing Napalm Cone Missiles that are similar to Sweet Tooth's but follow a different tracking program; they swirl around in the air several times before crashing down onto a vehicle. His second special is his Clown Ricochet Bombs, which are similar to regular rico bombs but are bigger and do more damage. His final special is the Flaming Headbutt in which the head on top of the car lobs off and homes in on a vehicle. It functions similarly to a Homing Napalm. His second form is simply the flaming head of the car without the body. He can be unlocked as a playable character using a third-party cheat system, however, it may cause major glitches to the PS1. He is, however, playable in the PC version of the game.

Special weapon: Ghost headbutt and napalm cones that go in different directions.

Boss of Amazonia: Fire Walk. Armored tank driven by a dark demon on a mission for revenge. With a uniques special, a combination of three missiles and a Freeze Blast, it is the second most powerful car in the game behind Dark Tooth. Minion can be accessed as a playable character.

The ice cream truck driven by the ever-psychotic Needles Kane is back for more! His special is the Napalm Cone, which features cones that bounce up and down in a sine wave-type pattern.

- Los Angeles: Quake Zone Rumble: The remains of Los Angeles, devastated from the effects of last year's tournament. Holds six opponents.
- Moscow: Suicide Slide: A secret base in Moscow resembling a missile silo. Holds five opponents.
- Paris: Monumental Disaster: Battle in the streets of Paris, France, including the Eiffel Tower. Holds six opponents.
- Amazonia: Fire Walk: Ancient temple in Amazonia surrounded by lava. After six opponents are destroyed, Minion will rise from the lava to begin his revenge.
- New York: The Big Leap: Rooftop battle in New York City with ledges that can cause instant death. Holds six opponents.
- Antarctica: The Drop Zone: Unstable iceberg in Antarctica, slowly breaking apart piece by piece. Holds seven opponents.
- Holland: Field of Screams: Large environment in the Netherlands, featuring two windmills and tall grass for smaller vehicles to hide in. Holds over nine opponents.
- Hong Kong: Hong Kong Krunch: The final tournament level, in the streets and subways of Hong Kong. Survive and then prepare to meet the challenge of Dark Tooth. Holds eight opponents, not including Dark Tooth.
- Suicide Swamp: Bonus two-player level based on a racetrack from Jet Moto.
- Assault on Cyburbia: Bonus two-player level allowing both players to use the entire area of the original Twisted Metal level.
- Rooftop Battle: Bonus two-player level of the final battle from the original, this time with players able to play the role of Minion.

- Axel: Axel wishes that he would be able to face his wicked father, who put him in the contraption that he is in. Axel disowns his father and frees himself from the wheels, tearing his limbs off in the process.
- Grasshopper: Revealing that Krista Sparks is none other than the daughter of Calypso, it turns out that she has died years ago, and is now a cyborg sent by the LAPD to stop the Twisted Metal tournament by killing Calypso through self-destruction. Calypso and Krista share a final embrace before they explode, after which the player is thanked by the LAPD for bringing an end to the tournament.
- Hammerhead: Calypso grants Mike and Stu's wish to have the ability to fly. The duo run off the building attempting to fly and plummet to their death. After their death, a rather confused Calypso is shown holding two plane tickets.
- Minion: Calypso is surprised and scared to see Minion come face to face with him. Minion kills Calypso by sending him to Hell.
- Mr. Grimm: The Grim Reaper asks Calypso to make the human race die quicker so he can eat their souls. Calypso causes a war among humans allowing Mr. Grim to have his feast. Eventually, everyone on the planet dies, leaving Mr. Grimm hungry for all eternity.
- Mr. Slam: Simon Whittlebone wishes to build the tallest building in the world, but when he does, he falls off of the roof.
- Outlaw 2: Capt. Jamie Roberts' brother was sent into space by Calypso after the first Twisted Metal tournament when the madman twisted his words around. Upon winning, Capt. Roberts wishes to see her brother again and Calypso happily grants her wish by sending her into space as well. What Calypso doesn't know is that Roberts has secretly modified her police car, which she plans to use to retrieve her brother and fly back from space to get revenge at the next tournament.
- Roadkill: Claiming he is not insane, Marcus Kane begs Calypso to make the Twisted Metal tournament a bad dream. Calypso does, and Roadkill wakes up in a hospital bed with his family grateful he has awakened. He looks around at the beds next to him and sees all of the other competitors. He discovers that he was injured during a car wreck and that the Twisted Metal tournament was a dream he had while in a coma.
- Shadow: Mortimer reveals that he was hired by the souls who died in the first competition to lead them to revenge. The souls all carry Calypso into the air, but he grabs onto the wing of a passing plane and escapes.
- Spectre: As an actor, Ken wishes that everyone would know who he is and that the whole world would see his face. Calypso grants his wish by stretching his face around the entire world.
- Sweet Tooth: After winning, Sweet Tooth wishes to be an insect on a farm. Calypso grants his wish and Sweet Tooth becomes an insect, killing the other insects around him.
- Thumper: After winning, Bruce Cochrane wishes to be king of the world. Calypso grants his wish and Cochrane realizes that he is the only man alive after the competition and has nothing left to rule. He sits on a throne atop a mountain of corpses.
- Twister: Amanda Watts wishes that she would be the fastest racer on the planet. Her race car becomes so fast that she gains the ability to travel faster than the speed of light, thus allowing her to go to different time periods. Eventually, she runs out of gas in prehistoric times and gets killed by a dinosaur. Her damaged helmet is all that is left of her, and it ends up in a museum in the future.
- Warthog: At over 100 years old, Capt. Rogers wishes to have the body of a 20-year-old. Calypso grants his wish by giving him exactly what he wished for: the body of a 20-year-old... but not a head that matches.
