Twin Lakes (Alaska)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Twin Lakes is a complex of two large lakes in Lake Clark National Park in the U.S. state of Alaska near the town of Port Alsworth. It contains a 9.7-km-long (6 mi) upper lake and a smaller 6.5-km-long (4 mi) lower lake, joined by a short connecting stream. It is quite remote and unpopulated, except in the late summer as it is a popular hunting spot.
The lake complex was the retirement home of Richard Proenneke, who spent most of the last 30 years of his life living there in a log cabin he built by hand.
Twin Lakes was popularised by its inclusion in the computer game 'Metal Gear Solid'. The character Solid Snake left his unit Fox Hound and retired to Twin Lakes, Alaska and became a Dog Musher.
