Twentysomething (term)

For the album by Jamie Cullum, see Twentysomething (album).

A twentysomething is a person in the age group of 20 to 29. Such a person may also be termed a vicenarian.

The term twentysomething first appeared in the late 1980s as a play on the earlier term thirtysomething from the 1980s television show of the same name in the United States.

After the publication of Douglas Coupland's groundbreaking 1991 novel Generation X: Tales For An Accelerated Culture this age group became popularly known as Generation X. The term twentysomething has recently come back into fashion with the media and with the current cohort of young people to whom it again refers.
