twentyfourseven was a documentary-style reality show on MTV which documented lives of a group of male friends seeking fame and fortune in Hollywood. Launched in December 2006, the show aired on Wednesday nights in the Ten Spot block after The Real World. However the show ended up with low ratings and critical derision, and some viewers were suspicious that certain portions of the show were staged in advance for dramatic effect; for instance Greg Cipes was described as a new up and coming singer new to the LA scene, despite the fact he had been acting constantly on television in small roles and animated series voices as far back as 1999.
Also in question was Chris Carney's arrest in his hometown of Hot Springs, Arkansas for a DWI charge (a major part of the show's second episode), where the booking into the police department may have been refilmed for dramatic purposes after all charges against Carney were dropped [1]. Moreover, in the episode he was arrested, Chris had a "buzzed" hair-cut. When he was released, he magically had a mohawk -- the next day.
After the premiere of three episodes, in a rare move, MTV cancelled the series from the network without any explanation and pulled any subsequent repeats off the air, and the series is currently airing only on MTV.com, with new episodes premiering on Wednesday.
It has been described as a "real" version of Entourage, in the same manner that Laguna Beach is the "real" version of The OC. [2]
