The inaugural championship is going to be held in South Africa in 2007.[1] The tournament will consist of 12 teams. The championship will be held around every two years.

The World Cricket League is a series of international one-day cricket tournaments for national teams without Test status, administered by the International Cricket Council. Any Associate or Affiliate member of the ICC may compete in the league system, which has promotion and relegation between each division. The series will complete its first cycle in 2007, with teams allotted into divisions based on their performance in the qualification tournaments for the 2007 World Cup. The finalists of the World Cricket League Division One final will qualify for 2007 Twenty20 World Championship.
Scotland became the first qualifier from the World Cricket League when they beat Kenya by 77 runs to guarantee a place in the WCL final and therefore a place in the Twenty20 world cup. They will be joined in the championships by Kenya who secured their place after defeating Canada heavily in the 5th round of matches.
[edit] Tournament
The upcoming tournament in 2007 will feature 12 teams, including all 10 Test-playing countries, in a nine-day event. Ten Test playing teams automatically qualified for the tournament while the other two teams are going to be selected from the World Cricket League. Scotland became the first team to be confirmed from the World Cricket League, 4th February 2007.
Venues: Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town[2]
[edit] Hosts
The International Cricket Council's executive committee vote for the hosts of the tournament after examining the bids made by the nations keen to hold a Twenty20 World Championship. South Africa will host in 2007, England in 2009, Sri Lanka in 2012 and Bangladesh in 2014.
South Africa and England will host the first two competitions. The ICC decided that South Africa and England should host the first two tournaments because they were the earliest adopters of the format.[3]
