From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 12th Soviet Army started the war as part of the Soviet Southwestern Front. The army's headquarters was disbanded 10 August 1941 after the Battle of Uman. In this battle, the 12th Soviet Army was caught in a huge encirclement south of Kiev along with the 6th Soviet Army. The 12th Soviet Army was reformed twice in 1941 and reformed again by conversion of the previous 5th Tank Army in mid April 1943. [1]
