Tussock grass
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tusock grass can be any tall, strong–growing grass: one that grows in thick clumps or tussocks. Most frequently, tussock grasses are members of the genus Nassella, less often the genus Deschampsia while, more rarely it may be a member of the genera Poa and Dactylis. Large areas of the South Island of New Zealand are covered in tussock grass; it is regarded as one of the salient features of the New Zealand landscape. Known simply as "The Tussock", it is seen as the New Zealand equivalent of the Prairies, the Steppes or the High Veld.
It is also common in South America, particularly the Falkland Islands
