Turnberry Isle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Turnberry Isle is often referred to as an "island playground" for the rich in the northern part of Miami Dade county, Florida, in an area called Aventura. The resort's developers are Donny Soffer and Eddie Lewis of Oxford Development, who are also credited for numerous other major developments in South Florida.
Famous regulars to the plush resort include Robert Evans, James Caan, Jack Nicholson, Tommy Lasorda, and marijuana smuggler Joey Ippolito. During the 1980s, the resort owners employed high-profile famous hostesses such as Donna Rice and Lyn Armandt. In 1988, a palatial yacht docked at the resort and owned by its developer, the Monkey Business, became infamous for sinking Presidential-hopeful Gary Hart's political career.
Even though it is called an "Isle," Turnberry itself is a resort surrounded by two championship golf courses in the city of Aventura, FL. Currently operated by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, the resort is renowned for its Robert Trent Jones golf courses, award-winning spa, tennis facilities, ocean club and renown fine dining.
