[edit] Profile

The Turks and Caicos Islands are one of the up and coming teams in international football. However, having formed a football association in 1996 and joined FIFA in 1998, the federation and the team are demonstrating honor for a nation of 30,000 inhabitants.

The nation recently built their first stadium with the help of the FIFA Goal Programme, and they seem committed to building a broad base of football participation and support.

In their first chance at FIFA World Cup™ qualifying, Turks and Caicos Islands were knocked out by unassuming St. Kitts and Nevis 14-0 aggregate. A rough start, but one that the islands are determined to improve on.

Their determination and growth over the past four years were there for all to see in qualifying for Germany 2006 when the side were drawn against regional heavyweights Haiti. Though they were clearly overmatched over the two legs, Turks and Caicos never stopped battling on their way to a 7-0 aggregate loss to the Germany 74 finalists. An encouraging result that points the way forward for this diminutive member of the football family. Italian born Alessio Girotti, who is the son of famed actor Massimo Girotti was an assistant coach during the qualifications.
