Turibius of Astorga

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saint Toribius (Turibius) of Astorga (fl. 460 AD) was a bishop of Astorga.

He is best known for having been an opponent of the heretical Priscillianists. Priscillian's ascetic heresy, which originated in Galicia, spread over the Tierra de Campos ruled by the Arian Visigoths, and was opposed by him.

He held a synod in 446.

He was a supporter of Pope St. Leo I the Great and was noted as being a stern disciplinarian.

His feast day is April 16
