Turf Tavern

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Turf Tavern (or just "The Turf") is a popular but well-hidden historic public house in central Oxford, dating from the 14th century.

The pub is frequented by both university students and tourists. It is located down a narrowing winding alley between Holywell Street and New College Lane, close to the old city wall, which can still be seen here.

Local legend has it that the Turf Tavern is where former US president Bill Clinton, while attending Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, infamously "did not inhale".
