Tungia Baker

Tungia Baker, was born in 1941 to noted Ngāti Raukawa elder Matenga Baker of Otaki, New Zealand.

She was a National Representative of American Field Service, pioneering marae visits for incoming AFS scholars. [1]

She was an artist and an actress, taking parts in TV series, and that of Hira in The Piano.

She was closely associated with Raukawa Marae and Rangiatea Church, Otaki. In the last part of her life, she lived on the West Coast.

She died of cancer on July 27, 2005 and is buried in Rangiatea churchyard.
