Tuesday Morning (NASDAQ: TUES) is a discount gift and home accessory chain based in Dallas, Texas. Founded in 1974, the chain is known for its deep discounts on gifts and accessories seen in more upscale department stores. As of August 2006, the company operates 766 stores across the United States, most of which are in secondary locations of major suburban markets, such as strip malls and warehouse districts
Tuesday Morning is a rarity among retailers in that its sales are structured around about 10 four- to five-week "events" a year. The stores are open about 300 days out of the year and close between events to restock, most noticeably for the first few weeks of January and July, typically slow months for retail. The chain derives its name from the day on which its events traditionally get their official start, although the stores may reopen prior to the stated start date.
The chain traditionally has relied on direct marketing, (including mail and the eTreasures e-mail list), but also advertises in newspapers and on television with spots featuring veteran actress Lauren Bacall. Lauren Bacall is retireing as Tuesday Morning's spokesperson and will be replaced by Morgan Fairchild.
