[edit] History

San Fat Estate (新發邨), completed in 1971, was the first public housing estate in the Tuen Mun, located by Tuen Mun River, at the junction of Pui To Road and Tuen Mun Heung Sze Wui Road.

Tuen Mun was then known as Castle Peak and thus the estate was originally named Castle Peak Estate (青山邨). After the Hong Kong Government renamed Castle Peak to Tuen Mun in 1974, the estate was renamed San Fat Estate in honour of Chan Yat San and Lau Wong Fat, prominent figures in Heung Yee Kuk.

The estate was demolished because of its age, and to liberate land for the construction of the Tuen Mun Station of the KCR West Rail. When the Light Rail was constructed, the nearby stop was named "San Fat".

Tuen Mun is an interchange station with the KCR Light Rail. A public transport interchange adjacent to the station gives passengers direct access to the station concourse via escalators and stairs.

On 1 August 2003, San Fat Light Rail stop was renamed to Tuen Mun [1]. At that time, the at-grade platforms were still used. On 30 August the same year, the elevated platforms officially commenced service, [2] although some Light Rail vehicles have been using the westbound platform since one week before. [3]
