Tsunami rights and referral center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tsunami Legal Aid & Rights Referral Center (T-LAC) was opened by the Asia Foundation in March 2006, with generous support from The World Bank and the Japan Social Development Fund.

T-LAC serves to aid in the tsunami recovery effort in Thailand by sponsoring all legal costs and providing pro bono representation and counseling for underprivileged survivors of the December 2004 tsunami disaster.

To date, T-LAC has reviewed and accepted a number of cases, the majority of which involve resolving land-disputes, filing for government restitution, establishing guardianship for orphans, and aiding survivors with the necessary administrative procedures involved in recovering personal identification papers and missing documentation.

T-LAC also promotes sustainable development by educating tsunami survivors with regards to their rights, and encouraging civic participation.
