Tsuchiura, Ibaraki

Tsuchiura (土浦市; -shi) is a city located in Ibaraki, Japan.
As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 135,143 and the density of 1,651.51 persons per km². The total area is 81.83 km².

[edit] From Meiji Era to Heisei Era
- November 3, 1940-The city was founded when the towns of Manabe and Tsuchiura merged.
- June 10, 1945-The city suffered damages during an air raid.
- September 1, 1951-The city absorbed parts of the village of Asahi (the shores of Arakawa). Merged with the village of Towa.
- November 1, 1954-The city merged with the village of Kamiotsu.
- February 20, 2006-The city merged with the village of Niihari.

Tsuchiura sits on the western (?) edge of Lake Kasumigaura. Kasumigaura is the 2nd largest lake in Japan. Major transportation links for Tsuchiura are the JR East Joban line and the Joban highway.
