[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:LAX Loggers logo.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:LAX Loggers logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Oberlander Jews

I've never heard of this term. And the Chatam Sofer was German, as far as I know, not Hungarian. Methinks I besmell me a hoax. Briangotts (Talk) (Contrib) 04:11, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

  • It's definitely not a hoax. The Oberlander Jews are a well-known sub-set in Haredi circles. IZAK 11:56, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Convention churches

I shall indeed be brushing up on Wikipedia as the days wear on, but be warned that I am prepared to defend the edits I have made. I don't wish to turn the article into an apologia for the church, but a good part of the article is hearsay or biased or nonsense.

"The church is sometimes confused with the Cooneyites" - By who? Adding "in the literature" certainly helps. By your own admission you're going back 25 years.

If the statement must stand I would - a) take it out of the opening paragraph - the subject SHOULD be included in the article, no question on that, and Cooney is referenced in the history.

Perhaps a section comparing the theology of the church to other denominations with which it is sometimes confused? Groups with common historical roots include the Faith Mission, the Plymouth Brethren, the Cooneyites. (Are there others emanating from Ireland in the late 19th, early 20th?)

[edit] RE: eh, thanks?

Well, there is WP:RUS which is currently used for transliterating names from Russian into English... Mírnyj átam as you put, is not a very commonly used transliteration system, and somewhat incorrect: there should be an atom not atam. According to WP:RUS, Russian "мирный атом" should be transliterated as mirny atom. Hope that clears it up, —dima/s-ko/ 17:34, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lazarus and Dives RFC

An RFC has been filed to determine whether or not the position of the Jesus Seminar should be included in Lazarus and Dives. Your comments would be most welcome. --Joopercoopers 22:26, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User talk:David Spart/Chabad Messianism

Following a recent wheel-war over Controversies of Chabad-Lubavitch in which PinchasC did not let me write an article on Chabad Messianism even after an AfD implied consensus for such an article I was advised to write such an article in my user space. I have now done so and would be grateful for any feedback from you before I put it up. Happy Purim. David Spart 00:38, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Recent edit to Partnership minyan

Hi Tomer! an edit was made to Partnership minyan adding the following paragraph:

Recently in the JOFA 10th Anniversary International Conference on Feminism & Orthodoxy, three members of these minyanim (Elitzur Bar-Asher, Michal Bar-Asher Siegal and Alanna Copper), in a session under the title: "Beyond Women Issue: Partnership Minyanim Engages Orthodoxy," articulated for the first time the methodology of the halachic decision process and the ideology behind these minyanim. <ref>[http://www.geretz.org/partnership_minyan.htm "Orthodox Conference explores "partnership minyan"],''The Jewish State''</ref>

I don't have any problem with the reliability of the media source, which contains excerpts from the JOFA paper which could legitimately added to the article. The paper itself, if it were published, could be cited and its content excerpted. But it doesn't seem to me that the mere presentation of an unpublished paper in a conference -- with nothing about the content, just the presentation of a paper and a claim the paper is a first -- is appropriate encyclopedia content for this article. (I also disbelieve the claim of first publication. For example, Tamar Ross wrote about these topics in her 2004 book Expanding the Palace of Torah, although doubtless not in as much detail). I want to be helpful to these people and if they have value to add and can reliably source it, I want to them to get their content in and they're welcome to cite any acceptable publication. However, I feel that simply adding a paragraph about the existence and virtues of an unpublished paper without meaningfully describing what it says on the article topic is not appropriate encyclopedia content and is possibly WP:SOAP. I'd appreciate a second opinion on this issue as well as your input about how to proceed. Best, --Shirahadasha 18:49, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nudity in Judaism

Tomer, User:Dandelion1, who replied to my comment with the "edit away" remark, is the article's author and principle creator of its content. The fact that s/he replied in a way indicating there would be no effort to provide sources or address other issues was what prompted me to propose the Afd.. Best, --Shirahadasha 19:15, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] McCarthy, Judaism

Hi, drifting through the American History project looking for a second opinion, I came across your post of WP:PR for McCarthy. As it turns out, I would love your thoughts on the current state of the article McCarthyism. (Disclosure: my view is it lacks appropriate emphasis on Communists exposed by Venona). Also, as a two-for-one, check out Hasmonean, one of my recent projects. I'd love your contribs there if you have a moment. Kaisershatner 15:16, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Little House Wayside

I noticed in your bio that you used to live by the place. Would you take a picture of the place sometime when you're in the area? I was there within the past 2 years, and wish that I would have taken a picture for the article. Please improve the article if you have any more information. Thanks! Thanks for the tip but, for now, I'm trying to keep my Wikipedia-ing under control.

[edit] Fishes

There is a new proposal on naming conventions for fish being discussed at WikiProject Fishes. As a member of a project whose naming conventions would be affected (WikiProject Sharks), your feedback would be appreciated at the WikiProject Fishes talk page here. [edit] Texas Border and State of Lincoln in 1869

An authoritative answer would surely be available from Mr. Robert Ybarra,Secretary, U. S. Section, International Boundary and Water Commission. This federal body, formed in 1848, along with the Mexican Section, has been continuously charged with determining the boundary between the U. S. and Mexico since that date. The U. S. Section is located in El Paso, Tx

[edit] Your Groovy User Page

It is 10 pounds of nifty is a 5-pound bag. I added in on my own user page, under Interesting user pages. Cheers! -Arcayne (cast a spell) 18:04, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

What an interesting person he is. Arcayne (cast a spell) 22:29, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, despite your rational explanations, I see that you got yourself attacked and accused for racism as well. No surprises there, it happened to anyone who tried to support the possibility of them being wrong, including Arcayne above. It's true that after a certain point and due to certain reasons, I failed to abide by WP:AGF, yet this is something resolvable via personal discussion and definitely irrelevant to the AnI's scope. That's why I'm bringing this up on your talk page rather than the AnI. Miskin 00:13, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Confused

I'm confused by your edit on AN/I where you typed this:

"Yeah. That includes you, Tomer. Tomertalk 19:10, 8 April 2007 (UTC)"

Am I missing something, or did you just yell at yourself in the third person? SWATJester On Belay! 02:44, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
