Tru-Life (born Robert Rosado) is a Puerto Rican-American rapper from New York City who is currently signed to Jay-Z's Roc-La-Familia label. Tru-Life stands for The Righteous Uniting Everybody Living In a Fantasy Environment. His latest release is a mixtape called Tru York, hosted by J-Love. He is part of a loose collective of rappers from New York known as Ghetto Inmates, along with Seven Dirty, Raze, Pee Da Blame, and Screw.[1].

Rapper Snoop Dogg wanted to sign Tru-Life.[2]. Snoop Dogg brought Tru-Life to the Apollo Theater two nights in a row. Snoop Dogg is slated to co-executive produce Tru-Life's album with Jay-Z.

[edit] Early Carreer

Many may not know that before the whole Roc-La-Familia and Dipset beef, that Tru Life was previously signed to Loud Records and then Dreamworks. Under both labels, his albums never dropped. His first album "Ghetto Inmates" was suppose to drop in 2000 under Loud, and "Cryin' Out Loud" was suppose to drop in 2001 under Dreamworks. Issues and feuds prevented the great work of both albums to never release, leaving many masterpieces in the underground and unknown. [3]

[edit] Feud With Mobb Deep

Tru-Life first came to prominence as a result of a feud with Prodigy of Mobb Deep. It resulted in some of Mobb Deep's affiliates (The Alchemist, Infamous Mobb, and Malik The Hitler to be exact) getting stripped down naked & robbed as a result. This feud is featured in the documentary film Beef, which is also available on YouTube [4].

Also, this feud resulted in Tru-Life's first single, "When Your A Thug" to not be released, along with his first album, titled "Ghetto Inmates" to not be released, and was dropped from Loud Records.

[edit] Feud With Dipset

Tru-Life is currently involved in a beef with Dipset, specifically Jim Jones. The beef allegedly started when Tru-Life wasn't signed by Jones the same year when Jones dropped Ryder muzik. It is said that he proceeded to insult Dipset co-founder Cam'ron in an interview with Complex Magazine.[5] Later, at The Roxy club after the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York, Tru-Life unleashed a lyrical assault on the entire Dipset crew.[6] Tru's freestyle mostly attacked Jim Jones' fashion choices. In early 2006, a photo began circulating of Dipset affiliate Shiest Bub wearing a Roc-La-Familia chain which was claimed to be Tru-Life's. In Fall 2006, another photo began circulating which showed Tru-Life wearing a Dipset chain around his neck. There has been speculation that this chain was stolen from a member of the Dipset entourage, although conclusive proof of the owner has never been established. There was also a photo of Jim Jones and Tru Life shaking hands and saying they will make a collaboration album in the summer of 2007. Diplomat's member Jim Jones challenged Tru-Life to a fight for $50,000 and later claimed that Tru never accepted the challenge.[7].
