Troy Williamson (born April 30, 1983 in Aiken, South Carolina) is an American football player, a wide receiver, entered the NFL draft after his junior year in college, and was drafted with the seventh overall selection by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2005 NFL Draft out of the University of South Carolina.

[edit] High school career

Troy Williamson attended Silver Bluff High School in Petticoat, South Carolina, and he was a letterman and excelled in both football and track. In track, he was a two-time 100 and 200-meter dash state champion. In football, as a senior, he rushed for 890 yards and caught 21 passes for 500 yards (23.8 yards per rec. avg.). He was an All-American, a consensus All-State selection, won Class-AA Player of the Year honors presented by the High School Sports Report, a Mr. Football finalist for the state of South Carolina, and helped lead his team to back-to-back state championships. After his senior season, he was rated the fifth-best wide receiver prospect in the Atlantic Region by PrepStar.

[edit] College career

Troy Williamson attended the University of South Carolina. He finished his college career with 91 receptions for 1,754 yards (19.3 yards per rec. avg.), and 13 touchdowns, 10 carries for 84 yards (8.4 yards per rec.), 24 kickoff returns for 447 yards (18.6 yards per ret. avg.), and 4 solo tackles (which he garnered playing special teams). His 1,754 receiving yards rank seventh on the school's all-time receiving yardage list.

[edit] Professional career

The Vikings needed a receiver with speed so they drafted Williamson with their #7 pick in the first round.

In his rookie year, Williamson recorded the first professional touchdown of his NFL career in Week 3 (9/25/05) vs. the New Orleans Saints on a 53-yard fly route from Daunte Culpepper. After Koren Robinson was cut from the team he became the Viking's #1 receiver, but as of December 2006 he led the NFL in dropped passes [1] [2][3] and only has caught less than three passes per game.
