Troy Williams

Troy Williams (born 1973) is the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Institute of Building (AIB) and a Coalition candidate for the 2007 Australian federal election.

Born in Penrith, New South Wales, during 1973, Williams studied at Murrumbeena Primary School then undertook secondary schooling at Brentwood and Tormore Colleges.

During 1991 Williams started as a part-time statistician at the AFL Richmond Football Club then later to work in its marketing department.
In 1995 he was appointed as a research officer with the Fire Protection Association Australia (FPA Australia), promoted to Executive Officer of its Victorian branch in 1997 then national Assistant Executive Director in 1998. He was responsible for coordinating FPA Australia’s industry policy, making a substantial contribution to the creation of Australian Standards and technical codes associated with reduced global warming and ozone depleting gases used by the fire protection industry.
During 1998 he was seconded to the National Fire Protection Association (USA) to study the harmonisation of Australian and US building codes. This work has been augmented by further postings to Washington DC.
Under his leadership FPA Australia became a Registered Training Organisation, the first independent organisation in Australia to offer training in portable fire equipment serving and training.
He made a lasting contribution to the Australian fire protection industry as principal author of FPAA01-2000 Code of practice for the fire protection industry which continues to provide a best practice and ethical framework for the installation and maintenance of life safety systems in Australia.
Australia is a world-leader in the removal by industry of ozone layer destroying gases and one such gas, Halon, was used extensively by the fire protection industry. The Montreal Protocol established an accepted international framework to protect the ozone layer and Williams’ expertise in assisting industry meet its obligations under the Montreal Protocol saw him promote Australia’s expertise overseas in 2001, traveling to the USA, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. One of his last policy initiatives at FPA Australia was an industry-sponsored program to voluntarily meet, indeed exceed, greenhouse gas emissions targets set out in the Kyoto Protocol.
Following these accomplishments Mr Williams was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Community Titles Institute Queensland CTIQ, a leading professional institute representing the interests of managers of some 165,000 properties valued at more than AUD$53billion. During his time at CTIQ the organisation doubled in size and became a considerable influence in body corporate law reform.
In 2005 he accepted the prestigious position of General Manager of the Australian Institute of Building (AIB), a professional body for builders that received a Royal Charter in 1969. Previous AIB Presidents include Sir Manuel Hornibrook and Sir Albert Jennings. Williams' primary responsibilities include managing the institute and acting as its princpal lobbyist.
He has also served as General Manager for Queensland of a conglomerate incorporating a law firm, funds manager and strata-manager, TEYS
Mr Williams is an active member of the Australian Army Reserve, although recurring shoulder injury is likely to draw to a close this Chapter in his life.
Mr Williams is the endorsed Liberal Party (Australia's conservative party) candidate for the seat of Fraser in the 2007 Federal Election.
He first appeared in the Australian Edition of Who's Who in Australian Business in 2006.

Prior to his 26th birthday Troy Williams was nominated three times in the Australian Young Achiever of the Year Awards. Twice in the 'community service' category and once in the 'career achievement' category. Industry policy is not Williams' only contribution to the environment. Through his involvement in various community groups has coordinated the planing of some 5,000 trees.
