Troutdale, Virginia

Troutdale is a town in Grayson County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,230 at the 2000 census. Troutdale's fire hall holds a monthly bluegrass concert during the winter, except when it is cancelled due to a fire; proceeds benefit the fire company. The same fire department also hosts the annual Troutdale Old-Time and Bluegrass Music Festival every September, with music presented by the Big Country Bluegrass Band [1].

Troutdale is located at 36°42′3″N, 81°26′41″W (36.700963, -81.444823)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 8.1 km² (3.1 mi²), all land.

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,230 people, 79 households, and 56 families residing in the town. The population density is 152.7/km² (395.5/mi²). There are 111 housing units at an average density of 13.8 persons/km² (35.7 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 30.89% White, 67.80% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.81% from other races, and 0.08% from two or more races. 0.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 79 households out of which 21.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.4% were married couples living together, 11.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% were non-families. 22.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 2.93.

In the town the population was spread out with 3.4% under the age of 18, 20.6% from 18 to 24, 61.1% from 25 to 44, 11.6% from 45 to 64, and 3.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 1,142.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 1,463.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $38,438, and the median income for a family was $45,833. Males had a median income of $24,258 versus $16,250 for females. The per capita income for the town was $18,139. About 3.2% of families and 3.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.6% of those under age 18 and 2.9% of those age 65 or over.
