Troublemakers (comics)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Troublemakers is the title of a comic book published by Valiant Comics. Troublemakers was created by famed writer Fabian Nicieza and penciller Kenny Martinez. Nicieza describes Troublemakers as a "slice of life coming of age story of a group of adolescents who happen to have fantastic abilities and live in a fantastic environment."
The Troublemakers are made up of four preteens who have been genetically engineered from conception by their parents (all of whom are scientists for the government) to display superpowers. They are brought up in an underground government bunker, away from the eyes of the media, but can't help being kids and troublemakers.
[edit] Characters
Christine Helvin (XL) - has the ability to excel at what anyone around her (within range of her biofield) is best at. For instance, if Michael Jordon is in the room with her, she can slam dunk over him. She's the team leader because of her age, but her brother doesn't listen to her.
Zach Helvin (Rebound) - is Chris's younger brother; he can repel or attract objects, or repel and attract himself to and from objects (using his gravimetric field). He is a bit like Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes at age 11; He is all action, no thought and could turn out to have a nasty disposition. It's a good thing his older sister is there to give him the proper guidance.
Parker Matthews (Blur) - has a biofield that is able to tap into electromagnetic wavelengths, manipulating transmission signals, light and sound. He is a voyeur and lives his life vicariously through others.
Jane Ngo (Calamity) - is the most shy and most insecure of the group because she does not yet have complete control of her power. She has a chaos-field that makes her a walking domino effect. For the first few issues she is grounded (is isolation for a number of weeks in a chamber that dampens her powers) because her powers destroyed a large and expensive section of the underground government facility.
[edit] Controversy
Troublemakers dealt with a number of modern day issues affecting preteens and teens including teenage sex, drugs, alcohol, rape and teenage violence.
