Many coastal and island regions at 10° to 20° from the equator, such as the Caribbean island, have a tropical marine climate. A marine climate is influenced by the the sea.

There is a wet season, when atmospheric conditions are unstable. At this time, the region is influenced by tropical waves. Islands such as Trinidad and Grenada are influenced by the ITCZ. Most countries with tropical marine climate may be affected by hurricanes.

There is a dry season with stable weather conditions and much less rainfall. Much of the region is influenced by anticyclones at this time. However, the contrast between wet and dry seasons is not very sharp. Minor disturbances in the atmosphere may produce rain at any time of year.

The trade winds blow all year round in this region; they are moist winds which have passed over a warm ocean surface.
