[edit] Programming

Channel 7 airs mostly American programming and only an occasional Belizean program. Channel 7 has been the local rightsholders to NBA Sunday programming, the NFL's Super Bowl, the Tour De France and most recently, the FIFA World Cup.

[edit] 7 News

Prior to 1994, Channel 7 got its news from local radio powerhouse Radio Belize. Beginning on February 14, 1994, 7 News began producing its own newscast, running opposite Great Belize Television's News 5 Live. According to manager Vasquez, the first story run by 7 News featured Belizean artist and sculptor George Gabb, who died on March 1, 2007.

7 News still airs in the same slots as News 5 Live, except that an extra repeat newscast airs at 12:00 PM from Monday to Saturday. There are no regular weekend newscasts other than Friday repeats; 7 News has aired two one-time only Saturday evening newscasts, the latest coming in April 2005 in the midst of the protests in Belize.

[edit] Criticism

Detractors of Channel 7 focus mainly on the news department, which they say is pursuing its own radical agenda. Channel 7 is usually more critical of Government foibles than rival Channel 5, and Government officials have pointedly criticized 7 for its hard-hitting analysis of national issues.
