Trollin Withdrawal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Trollin Withdrawal were a band from Boston, Massachusetts that existed between 1990 and 1995, whose musical style had its roots in hip hop music and was sometimes referred to as chimp rock.
The band was lead by singer/songwriter Non-Robot #27 (a.k.a. "The Homeless Valet") on vocals, guitars and percussion, and cartoonist/producer Ron Regé Jr. (a.k.a. "The Discombobulated Ventriloquist") on backing vocals, drums and miscellaneous instruments. Morgan F.P. Andrews (who released most of the band's material through his anticapitalist Chimp/Order of Higher Primates non-label) occasionally played banjo, guitar and percussion, and Andy "Bunny" Bernick played drums for the band's live set.
Trollin Withdrawal's hard-to-find recordings are typically characterized by Non-Robot #27's rapid-fire, seemingly stream-of-consciousness lyrics mumbled, whispered, sung and/or shouted over some kind of guitar. Ron Regé overdubbed percussion, messed with the speed during mix-down and contributed a great number of lo-fi instrumental tracks. The band saw the release of four extended play records, one 40-minute audio cassette, and appeared on a few compilations. A full-length LP and CD of Trollin Withdrawal's final sessions was sequenced, but never released. All of Trollin Withdrawal's members were either in or appear on recordings by the Swirlies.
