Trofeo Ciudad de Vigo

Rather than play pre-season friendlies Spanish football teams usually play for a trophy. This can either be a one-off match or alternatively a group competition with four teams. Celta Vigo's trophy is known as the Trofeo Ciudad de Vigo - The City of Vigo Trophy. The first match was played against Panathinaikos of Greece in 1971, which they lost. This season's will be the XXXVI edition of the trophy against Atlético Madrid at Balaidos on the 19 August 2006.
