- September 3, 1935 - The Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 hit the Florida Keys as a Category 5 hurricane with a central pressure of 892 mbar (hPa), making it the most intense hurricane to hit the United States. It caused over $40 million of damage in Florida (pictured).
