- May 1, 1971 - Typhoon Wanda reached its peak just off the Vietnamese coast with 140 km/h (85 mph) winds. The storm killed 56 and caused $700,000 of damage.
- May 2, 1994 - Cyclone 2B hit land near the Myanmar-Bangladesh border. The cyclone caused 285 casualties and over $125 million of damage.
- May 3, 1971 - Typhoon Amy passed to the west of Guam at its peak with 280 km/h (175 mph) winds, causing $900,000 of damage on the island. Amy caused a further $4.5 million of damage in Chuuk.
- May 4, 1982 - Cyclone 01B hit southern Myanmar, where it killed 5 people.
- May 5, 1974 - Typhoon Carla reached its peak with 150 km/h (90 mph) winds to the east of Iwo Jima. Carla had previously caused heavy damage to crops in the Northern Mariana Islands.
- May 6, 1957 - Typhoon Trix (track pictured) reached its peak strength with a central pressure of 950 hPa (mbar) to the east of the Philippines.
- May 7, 1932 - Tropical Storm One (track pictured) hit Hispaniola as a minimal tropical storm. The storm only had minimal effects along its path.
- May 8, 2003 - Cyclone Manou (pictured) reached its peak strength in the Indian Ocean with a central pressure of 967 hPa (mbar). Manou killed 70 people in Madagascar.
- May 9, 1990 - Cyclone 02B hit Andhra Pradesh, India with winds of 185 km/h (115 mph). The storm killed 510 people and over 100,000 animals.
- May 10, 2002 - Cyclone 01B (pictured) hit Oman, bringing up to 250 mm (9.8 inches) of rain to the country.
- May 11, 1965 - The first of two cyclones to hit Bangladesh in 1965 made landfall on the country. As a result of this storm and the second on June 1, 47,000 people died.
- May 12, 1991 - Typhoon Walt reached its peak to the east of the Philippines with 260 km/h (160 mph) winds. Cyclone Lisa developed in the Southern Hemisphere concurrently with Walt.
- May 13, 2001 - Tropical Storm Cimaron reached its peak strength with 110 km/h (70 mph) winds, shortly before it struck Okinawa, bringing heavy rain to the island.
- May 14, 1997 - Cyclone Rhonda reached its peak in the open Indian Ocean with winds of 185 km/h (115 mph).
- May 15, 2007 - The official start of the East Pacific hurricane season and end of the Mauritius and Seychelles cyclone season.
- May 16, 1989 - Typhoon Brenda passed over the Philippines, causing torrential flooding that claimed at least 140 lives.
- May 17, 1951 - Hurricane Able (track pictured) reached hurricane strength over the Bahamas. Able reached Category 3 strength a few days later, becoming the only off-season Atlantic hurricane to reach that strength.
- May 18, 2006 - Typhoon Chanchu (pictured) made landfall near Shantou, China. Chanchu caused $1.2 billion of damage and killed 104 along its track.
- May 19, 2004 - Cyclone 02B (pictured) hit Myanmar, causing heavy flooding. The storm claimed 220 lives.
- May 20, 2005 - Hurricane Adrian (pictured) made landfall on the Gulf of Fonseca in Honduras. Adrian was the first Pacific hurricane to hit the Honduras coast and killed at least 4 people.
- May 21, 1976 - Typhoon Pamela passed over Guam with winds of 220 km/h (140 mph). Pamela caused over $500 million of damage to the island.
- May 22, 1996 - Tropical Storm Cam reached its peak with 110 km/h (70 mph) while moving to the east through the Luzon Strait between the Philippines and Taiwan.
- May 23, 1976 - Subtropical Storm One (track pictured) hit the Florida Panhandle, bringing heavy rainfall to the southeastern United States but only minimal damage.
- May 24, 1989 - Typhoon Cecil hit central Vietnam, where it killed 52 and left over 100,000 homeless.
- May 25, 1985 - Cyclone 01B hit Bangladesh, killing around 6,000 people.
- May 26, 1953 - Tropical Storm Alice (track pictured) made landfall in Nicaragua as a minimal tropical storm.
- May 27, 2003 - Tropical Storm Linfa, also called Tropical Storm Chedeng, made landfall on Luzon in the Philippines. Linfa killed 41 in the Philippines.
- May 28, 1960 - Tropical Storm Lucille and a non-tropical low merged just off Luzon in the Philippines. The non-tropical disturbance killed nearly 300 in the Manila area.
- May 29, 1958 - Typhoon Phyllis reached its peak with 295 km/h (185 mph) winds, becoming the strongest typhoon recorded in May.
- May 30, 1959 - Tropical Storm Arlene (track pictured) made landfall in Louisiana as a minimal tropical storm, causing $500,000 of damage.
